Welcome to the mornings on at nine. It is good to be back in the good actually have some cooler temperatures out there playing a role in the firefighter there in the county. Really some good news for a change when it comes to the contained fire which fire crews are making significant progress the fires go just one square mile overnight to 120 square miles the real positive news is that containment has doubled from 15, to 30 now while severe wind gusts remain a concern high wind advisor was canceled overnight because wind was not as strong as predicted. They estimate that this fire will be fully contained by a week from tomorrow. It was and we want to update you on a breaking news story that was first brought you a little bit earlier here firefighters have knocked out flames of a new fire burning near the lake. This fire picked up around 730 this morning on rockwell road. Skye fox overhead so that the fire was not too big it did burn a small area of brush and there is no major damage. No word on how that fire started. Lets go over to see what weather will be working with in the favor of the fire posted. The windspeed has come way down. It is the humidity that is very very low. That is not changing now. But that should change gradually over time. The stronger gust now are in the open hills. 75 miles an hour as it comes down to 43 at 4 00 this morning. 23 miles now. It is a nice day right now 13 miles an hour. Thankfully not much is going on right now in the mountains. But right above this area it is 37 Miles Per Hour. The airflow though is offshore and i mean big time. Now you know the windspeed is not that strong you can go all the way down to monterey and cn eastern breeze of some sort that has allowed temperatures to go just kind of crazy even from 20s, the 50s and almost 60s. The humidity around the bay even from fairfield is nine . Oakland is 16 and conifers 12. And one time on the coast it was under 10 . Which is just amazing and the strongest gust in the last couple was earlier at 40 Miles Per Hour. Mission peak was 28. Still on the east at 26. 31 though with nine humidity is the problem right there. It is now 37 out of the north 10 ridge ranch is not that strong with the breeze. So thankfully the wind gust did not get too crazy there. But the humidity is going to be a slow recovery. 11 which is a little bit higher towards the valley floors around lake county. You can see nine there east southeast 23. It will be better up towards the upper leg. With 34 . That is the problem you guys is that the humidity will be slow to recover but thanks to the wind it will be tailing off and we have no more warnings in the near future. Maybe november 10 maybe november 10. Thank you so much lets talk more about that Good Progress made by the firefighters battling the contained fire. We are joined now by eddie thank you for being with us. Thank you for having me. It was after so you guys must be so relieved that the containment doubled overnight. Fire crews held that fire to just about what it was in the previous hours this must be a morning of relief. Yes, it sure is, a lot of hard work in this portion. Obviously ellsberg with that wind that we expected last night we made sure to reinforce some areas and put out any hotspots within those committees to make sure that once that wind hit that it would not pick up and take off on us and make sure that we were able to hold the line very strongly. As far as the eastern portion im sorry, go ahead. It was as good ask about the eastern portion. How is that looking . As far as the eastern portion that was a very active fire last night. As far as fire activity goes. We have had a number of dozers working those lines. And as of this morning they did complete the line. And their objective last night and i would have firefighters putting in over three miles of hose from the area to the hotspots and the hot areas along the fire line. They will continue to form those lines and put out the fires until they reach the objective progress is good right now and the firefighters continue to work around the clock. The know that the mission or objective has to get them. And all we care about is trying to get those people back to the committees and their homes as soon as possible. I know that they have had their air attack on and off and on again because of the wind conditions, now that it should be smooth sailing with wind several days how does that change what you do from the air . It is not so much the wind that affects the aircraft. There is more of the lack of visibility that did not allow our pallets to have good visibility which is why they were not able to fly on certain days but as far as these next couple of hours and the next days to come with the wind calming down to increase the visibility as of yesterday we had 27 helicopters working and they have dumped over 2. 7 million gallons of water for our Ground Troops the 747s have dropped more than 1 million gallons along those active portions. Along the east side and a little bit on the north side that we saw fire activity. But the air support within the next couple of days should be good to go. We will see what the weather allows us to do. As long as we have good visibility our pilots, and our planes will continue to fly and support our Ground Troops in the area. Is the fire actively burning right now . I know it was right on the line yesterday. Yeah it was active as far as this morning goes. Right now more crews are heading out there. So those will be able to give us a little bit more of an update but those dozer lines were able to hold those lines where that fire activity was. And that allowed our firefighters to work late this morning. And a good evening with california fire thank you so much for your help. Stay safe. Are the majority of the firefights right now are in the county but residence who are very familiar with wildfires are still on alert this morning. We are joined live this morning from blake from lake county good morning we just asked if the fire was still active and we can confirm that it is. You can take a look behind me and see all of the smoke billowing from that hillside. The aircraft is underway here. We have seen multiple aircraft making water drops in this area. Trying to put out this fire. Firefighters are pretty confident in that interview that you just heard they have the containment lines down. And firefighters are getting a handle on this. Now before we made our way to lake county we were on highway 128 where we saw a structure smoldering. A bridge leading to the property was lost by fire vehicles by a former employee from the History Center confirmed the main lodge of the Education Center in the county. She said the center was for high school and College Students that was just one of many businesses lost to the contained fiber for the down highway 128 there was a dangerous situation this morning a tree weakened by the fire fell across the highway crews cleared the road and thankfully no one was hurt but it is a hazard that people need to be aware of what evacuations are listed. We caught up with the valley fire captain who says could be relatively calm compared to the last few days. We have been patrolling the whole fire area. Mostly our crews have been over and we are patrolling the whole area now. Fire crews were preparing for the worst but the wind has been calmer than expected. The National Weather service actually canceled a high wind advisory because when below 2500 feet have died down but there still under a red flag wanting. Wind is still Strong Enough and humidity is low enough to create critical fire weather conditions. Now the goal is that california fire hopes to have the fire fully contained by november 7. Back at your life you can take another look this is the eastern part of the fire burning in lake county here you can see a lot of smoke building for that mountainside. Making these water drops 30 minutes or so it really seems like firefighters are getting physical on this fire and thankfully the wind burst is not as bad as expected. So just the relative humidity is very low. And the conditions have chances that this fire could start so that is something that firefighters are trying to be very careful about. This morning ktvu news. Thank you. Now some good news up next they have in other exactly that. This market here behind me you can see they opened up just a little while ago there was a small line waiting out there. At this point they really do not have power here either there running on generator so it is cash or credit only as you can see on their sign and it was like theyre only letting a few people in at a time. They have more than 6300 employees and contractors out right now. Also 44 choppers in the air doing inspections and working on restoring power at this time. The announced overnight that it would not cut off santa clara, santa cruz and the counties because of improving weather conditions. And really since we got out here wind has been fairly light. Now they did all this to save about 30,000 customers to deal with a no power situation but still over half 1 million customers have no power overnight because forecasted high wind in those areas. This latest round of outages affecting parts of 22 counties and the shutouts that started yesterday morning. Roughly 400,000 impacted customers are those who were originally hit by Public Safety power shut off so over the weekend. This latest round coming after the head of the company agreed to credit customers affected by that on october 9. Some were left frustrated after days without power others say that it is better to be safe than sorry. I dont mind them shutting it down you know, it is like i cannot believe that the state of the fires are like you can go without electricity if it helps at all. Dont do it. At this point they say that meteorologists are not predicting at least another weather event for seven days. So it is a Welcome Break for those that were hit hardest by the fires as well as these Power Outages. Allison rodriguez ktvu news. It was this fire has also proven that it can keep pushing to the west so far firefighters have been successful in preventing flames from moving towards santa rosa, and windsor. The air attack here has been critical. Planes, and helicopters have dropped over 1 million of fire retardant and 2 million gallons of water. The kept working its way. So it is like it is not okay maybe it will only go, no does not. Maybe the kept kind of you know it is like you are losing a game of chess aggressively. They were forced to evacuate with little warning and they are relying on others while the kincaid fire burns. In san jose, the owner of a moving company is collecting donations that will be delivered to evacuees. Gabriel lopez says that they lived on the evacuation zone but he knows that the fires are taking a heavy toll on many families. The bus i want to fill up my truck. Investigators and so the company believe that they now know what sparked the fire burning in West Los Angeles it looks like it started after a tree branch fell and landed on some powerlines. But he is on gas cameras and photos show a branch breaking up the eucalyptus where that fire started on monday the powerlines are operated by the Los Angeles Department of water and power. Southern california edison already faces lawsuits from fire victims and their families. Now is talk about the Power Outages. Some of the conveniences because of the power shut off dozens of low income seniors who live in the county say that there any potentially dangerous situation because they have been without literacy since saturday. Amber lee reports on the safety risk grid by the power outage and the residence that claims for help. Mark is among the younger tenants here. The 68yearold is checking on disabled neighbors trapped on the third floor with no power, no elevator on saturday. I am oxygen dependent so ive had to rely on the tanks being delivered with the power shut off and it is very frightening and scary. Down the hallway another tenant is also struggling. What i do after that . There are no safety or exit lights anyway. It was on the ground floor a 75 yearold wearing a headlamp helps guide us through the building and hallways that would otherwise be pitch black. It is dangerous for one thing. Not a lot of people here even have flashlights. She contacted ktvu to get the impact on the outage for the dozens of other tenants in her building. Has been hard. I just broke down yesterday and i cannot stop crying. It was the residence told that there is no manager or worker who works on site. They have asked management for a generator prior to this outage but have not received one. It was maybe the elevator could work so that the people who are trapped upstairs or disabled and very old can get downstairs if they need to get out. My big fear here is a fire. Their medical devices and phones. Half of them dont even know because i live inside their apartments. And are totally helpless without electricity. It was a terrifying expense for me. It was the tenants told that there is no hot water. Im told that some are turning on their stills for warmth. They have been warned not to do so but some of them are forgetful. We just talked about that situation less than an hour ago here and folks about some 10,000 to customers mostly in fairfax still dont have powers. She says that crews are patrolling but she did not have an estimated time as to when power would be restored. Already coming up on the news at nine you may have seen this photo of a chicago couple on their wedding day in our next half hour we will sit down with the photographer who captured this moment. 6, 7, 8 big dreams start with small steps. In this case you can still see some active orange flames, a lot of smoke but my goodness containment is now at 30 . That is double what it was yesterday. The fire crew by just one square mile in the area overnight. And the best part of this all is that wind has died down significantly. Store magnet was moran breaking is that we have been following in Southern California now firefighters are battling a new fire this one started just before dawn in the valley area north of los angeles. The fire has forced evacuations at the Ronald Reagan president ial library and some nearby homes. At this point we know more than 100 acres have burned and the fire spreading towards the 118 and 118 freeway. Strong western wind is pushing smoke and flames towards several streets. Really of Ventura County and malibu this fire is not far from where the saddle ridge fire burned about 8000 acres destroying dozens of buildings resulting in one death earlier this month. All right back here in the bay area some better news is money coming out of the north bay. 30 containment on the fire line while the contained fire expanded just one square mile overnight 120 square miles part of the reason for the progress is really the strong wind that was forecasted did not materialize in parts and now the highwood advisory has been canceled 206 buildings including 94 homes have been destroyed with 90,000 still in danger of burning. Sky fox is giving us this live look of the fires this morning. You can see that it is still a very dangerous fire and many parts here as flames continue to push towards homes and other businesses as i mentioned 94 homes so far have been destroyed but if there is any good news and we are coming up basically to a week of this fire now burning last wednesday night. If there is any good news is containment again today from 15, 230. Firefighters are optimistic about all the progress they made overnight. You were here at the morning briefing today firefighters heading to the front lines got this latest information. And they were feeling very good about the progress that they made overnight. As i mentioned that he percent containment. That is double what it was yesterday. And so where we are, we are on the other side. We on the west side of this area. So the west side of the contained fire. And the west side of that fire view that sky fox was showing me. You can see the folks in the distance here behind us with more than 5000 firefighters and personnel are on the front lines of this fire. As you mentioned this morning we were at the morning briefing firefighters and Engine Companies from across the western u. S. Were at the meeting and you saw the firefighters and uniforms as far away from every and washington which is north of seattle and from santa fe new mexico california leaders think the firefighters at this mornings meeting for the work and the progress they have made so far. It was i would say last night that we had that wind surface just like we would expect. And we were able to make it through that most intense portion of the red flag warning with no significant strokes. We will try to get much on as possible payments of our main concerns are more of that evening section towards lake county just was the fact that thats where the most heat is still at. And that is where some of those heavier materials are that are burning. The voice the traffic loss. I got to filter out of it. The voice now also brought up at that briefing a warning from the county Sheriffs Office says that they were following some reports that there were people possibly impersonating firefighters and those evacuation zones and they wanted folks at that meeting to be aware of it. If they see someone who doesnt look like they should be there to check their credentials and make sure that they are in fact firefighters. The county sheriff mentioned that they have more than 300 Law Enforcement personnel helping out from across the bay area. Making sure that there is no looting and of the road closures and evacuations zones are enforced. The overall message this morning is that there feeling good about the progress however, they want viewers and going out there to know that they are not out of the woods just yet. Firefighters are going to continue working for the remainder of the day and there are still some areas that are going to be focusing on that very little bit concerned about, including around sonoma county. Allie thank you. They were called again because of smoke lingering in the bay area. You can see there is a hayes lingering over the east bay people who step outside and smell smoke are encouraged to stay inside and close their windows. A lot of people really have no substitute for staying inside if and when you are inside make sure that your ventilation systems are on recirculate. I know that i do that in my car as well. For more on the bay area weather conditions it might be a little bit better today. It was i think from this point forward you guys it gets better. No doubt about it there are no more offshore events. At least not in the short term and by that i mean the next 3 to 5 days. It is very quiet Going Forward here. There is still an eastern breeze though in humidity that is extremely low. The high will be in the 70s. So still high fire danger today but i think gradually the morning is going to be cold but it does look very quiet going into the weekend dont forget we do fall back this weekend late saturday and sunday. So set your clocks back any rain sector on november 10 to 12th somewhere in there. That morning run will get that already around the 10th. So we will see. I think the pattern will change. It is us going to take about 10 days or so. Im not saying that oakland hill has 35 the seven Miles Per Hour i dont know why it is not reporting. But 28 Miles Per Hour still not good but better than 43 that we had at four clock in the morning. The wind is offshore and it is really dry. Maybe static around your house. Because the humidity is around 15, 12 for some. In fact this morning the area is at eight which is not unheard of. Look at fairfield. Nine convert 12 and 15 at livermore. So still some fire conditions even though the wind is dying down and will continue to do so. It is 64 up and santa rosa. So better up there. Some of the stronger gusts were again at this morning. But 40 miles an hour. Ellsberg was at 37. Around fremont. The gusts were 20 to 30 Miles Per Hour. This reservoir could be a windy spot as well at about 26 to 20 Miles Per Hour. Santa rosa made it to 28 this morning. Look at montero. 60 degrees San Francisco and sfo is at six is at 56 there is some mild reading but the cold air and the coldest reading ever taking all the way down to the intermountain regions denver had a record low. I mean there were many Single Digits throughout much of the west. As far as the Current Conditions not that bad now at 28 but the humidity is at 18 . Ridge ranch is at 10 also ellsberg is at 10 and around like county still at nine so the easterly flow there for the wind speed coming down that is the good news the humidity will still be low. The bad news i think over time here we will start to see gradually improving conditions and the morning well is going to be really cold. In fact they were cold all the way in the arizona Las Vegas Area still at 39 even a brisk 47 this morning. So the good news is temptress will be cold and i think gradually the humidity will come up and the wind speed is diminishing as well. 70 on the temperature and im happy to say that southbound earlier is back to normal and thats what it looks like going into the weekend you guys. Happy to hear it thank you. The santa rosa firefighters are cleaning up after an Early Morning house five. This fire started just before 330 this morning on mission boulevard in the valley neighborhood. The response to the fire was larger than normal because the department had extra engines and firefighters on standby because of the red flag warning in fact firefighters wanted to be prepared in case any fire spread to the area. Put a small fire that gets going to turn into something if it does turn up really want to make sure that anything that starts up there that we really knock it out quickly and effectively on the way to do that is by adding personnel so the engines and water trucks. Santa rosa fire has no injuries reported. The power is out in the neighborhood. As part of the Public Safety power shutoffs so fire investigators are still trying to find out exactly how that fire started. The news will continue in the statewide tour today. Affected by wildfire evacuations and the Public Safety power shut off. Going to visit a food bank in santa rosa at about 1030 this morning. And on during the noon hour you will find people who have been affected by the Public Safety power shut off. The governor was in Southern California yesterday where he met with firefighters and people affected by the fire. It was on twitter this morning the president again railed against investigation calling it an impeachment hoax. The president going on to tell republicans to quote close it out. A second witness will testify this afternoon. Christopher anderson a state Department Service officer anderson is excited to tell house impeachment investigators that former National Security advisor john bolton warned him about his back channel conversations with the ukraine. New wildfires erupt here in Southern California 5000 firefighters continue to battle the king fires still to come the latest on the front line in the county. And the 76,000 acres of the fires that started around the same time as one couples wedding and wine country of course a very popular month to get married we are looking at some of the photos of her big day and speaking to the person behind the wedding up next. The juul record. They took 12. 8 billion from big tobacco. Juul marketed mango, mint, and menthol flavors, addicting kids to nicotine. Five million kids now using ecigarettes. The fda said juul ignored the law with Misleading Health claims. Now juul is pushing prop c, to overturn San Franciscos ecigarette protections. Say no to juul, no to big tobacco, no to prop c. It was less than ideal wedding conditions. We have all seen this photo now or most of us this couple Wearing Masks with the smoky haze caused by the king cave fire burning in the background. Now look here at the story behind the photo. We are joined by the wedding photographer. And first of all and we took this photo you realize how popular, or how well of you it was going to get. It was i did not know at the time that it was going to take on the life that it has. But it is a very interesting experience of the last few days. So obviously, they came out and they did not know that this is going to happen. They were planning for a long time and so you made the best of it. Did you suggest that photo or today . It was the wedding planner suggested that when you take at least one photo with the mask that really represented everything going on at the time. There were wildfires burning nearby. And we just wanted to capture the moment. The photo itself and this is where were looking at other photos the sky with smoke unfortunately the smoke means that some people having a very tough time but this photo itself some people were saying this looks photo shopped but hello i want to introduce you to professional lighting, what kind of lighting is on it . I used two lights and those it is just people dont know those are very powerful lights. There are powerful flashes and i dialed down my camera so that you could really see the sun. And that is exactly what it looks like to your eyes. The sun was red, the sky was red. And using the lights we capture that. A reddit post said that she almost did not want to take the photo because he thought it might be tacky. But then somebody else said this is actually showing what was happening that day. When you fall on that line . It was i do believe that it is exactly what was happening that day. I do believe that people are being evacuated nearby. The town of kenwood itself is not under evacuation orders. That did not come until sunday i believe. So we were safe to be there. And we were following along with the firefighters and the authority. I myself am a recovering photographer. I saw some of what you did and i know is a very stressful job. On that day the fire add added stress to shoot . We decided that we did not want to spend any more than necessary time outdoors. So we had just a few minutes to do their family photos. We are just a few minutes to do their photos of the two of them in the vineyard. And it was a little bit of extra stress to get it all done in a timely way. It was weve had a lot of fire vents. And your photographer in this area you had to deal with smoke you know shes like this before . Yes. This is the fourth wedding in three years that has been greatly affected on my schedule at least by the fires. Two years ago during the tums fire i had three weddings that need to be relocated to the very last minute. It was all right thank you. One last quick weston. All right thank you for joining us. You for that. Todays expected to be the last windy day in Northern California after a more calm condition settles in. It was thank goodness, crews battling wildfires are hoping to keep the fires from spreading. They have been fueled by strong wind gust. Fire crews hurry to make progress on the wildfire had a powerful wind. Forecasters expect gust Strong Enough to push the flames in new directions and carry embers that could spark new blazes. Those conditions combine with the lack of rain pose significant challenges. Was we have not seen any moisture in our field beds for an extended period of time. The fuel is critically dry. They are receptive as well as fire spread. It was the kincaid fire has blackened in areas more than twice the size of San Francisco. I imagine planning your big event that is supposed to have an over the weekend is a bit like planning the wedding . The voice as youre walking up to the event the fires break out. What is your thought process . The fires broke out a few hours for the event was going to start. And so we were preparing to welcome 500 people and trying to assure their safety. We have already brought generators to the site. The power was out. So the generators were not needed and we were getting ready to cater and then the fires broke out. And then people were worried and anxious about their safety, and we had to make a call. And we had to cancel the event. It was what was it like making that decision . It was it was extremely hard. And once its because of how poor the event is. But on the other hand it was a clear call in terms of safety and anxiety so that was the priority. There is no question about that. There was it was not hard call to make. It is had difficult consequences. It was and now that we are on the back end of that decision youre hoping teresa 400,000 with the event that did not happen. He also invested quite a bit of money in the event and that did not happen. Right. How do you hope to receive those . What we estimate, that we lost about 60,000. And in terms of the cost for that night were not going to be able to recuperate. But we have been around since 1877 and we have always depended on our community so we are depending on them now. And we hope and assume and will mobilize as a community to come forward. We are looking towards rescheduling the event at some point when we can. But at this point our clients are still depending on us every day. Our clients depend on us and we depend on our community. That he does not go away just because the fundraiser does. We serve immigrants with Legal Services and there are a lot of urgent, daily needs going on right now. And that does not stop. And the support that we get to the community does not stop either. Was it is our honor to be able to help you get your message out. I know that we are learning that some people have been impacted by the wildfires and Power Outages. That we could have conceived that.
