When the rain ends it will be a little warmer, we will focus on inland areas for today until the weekend. So, 60s and also 70s for your temps today. I will head over to sal now and see if there is anything new going on. I know he has been talking about the ultima pass. It is still backed up a little bit, steve. We do have some slowing here and there around the bay area, and the pass is one of the spots where you will actually see some slow traffic here, and i can pull it up for you. But also the traffic in the east bay has improved. We had some slowing at 880, and that is much better. But, the traffic on the ultima pass is still a little bit slow. It is something happening every day, and its a sign of us getting back to normal. There have been no major issues driving south on 880. 7 02, lets go back to the headlines. Alameda county now has more confirmed coronavirus cases than any other bay area county. 65 new cases were reported in the last 24 hours, for a total of 2522. Santa clara county, they used to have the highest number of coronavirus cases. Santa clara, now has 2483 confirmed cases. 38 new cases were reported yesterday. As of today, the bay area has more than 11,000 confirmed infections here. Every bay area county, with the exception of napa county, reported new cases in the last 24 hours. Now several bay area counties report the number of deaths related to the coronavirus, following a two day streak of no casualties, alameda, santa clara, and san mateo counties reported the least, 14 people, died yesterday. This comes after no reported deaths on sunday and monday. That hasnt happened since the early days of the pandemic, back in march. Experts say a two daybreak in the loss of life is promising. And a step in the right direction. You have to be careful, because two days is a very short period of time to make generalizations. But, in the bay area, overall, it has been flattening. Now, the experts credit a combination of social distancing, use of gloves and masks, and also shelter in place orders for flattening the curve. One bay area county is taking the next big step in reopening its country. Napa county at the green light from the state to move into the second part of phase two of governor Gavin Newsoms plan to reopen telephone. This has been a long time coming, but the state approved the plan to move to the second part of phase two, effective immediately. That means, restaurants will open for dyingin services. You will be able to shop nonessential stores and swap meets. They are opening with modifications, though, so it will not be what you are used to. This will include sanitization protocols and social distancing. Another important note, schools will reopen, but districts have the final say in their lands on that. Not in phase two though, wineries and tasting rooms. While its mag major part of the economy, they cannot open until phase three. We spoke to one woman about that reopening, she says she has no concerns dining and at restaurants and is happy the county is taking this next step. On monday night, napa county to the department of health highlighted how the county highlighted the reopening criteria. The state approved plans as of tuesday, the county had 92 cases of coronavirus. 10 people were hospitalized. 6 were in the icu, and 3 have died. Members of the Fitness Industry have come together to form the California Fitness alliance to find solutions to safely reopen during the covid 19 pandemic. The California Fitness alliance will seek to provide relief to employees who have lost their jobs when gyms were , statewide standards and guidelines. The last thing we would like to do is open and close later down the line. The timeline on reopening is still unclear. If you have a relative or friend somewhere else in the state where you can go and stay , please go to their homes. If you dont, go to one of the many shelters that have been set up in and around midland county. About 42,000 people have been evacuated. A plant activated its Emergency Operation center. Chicagos tallest building may be without power until the end of the week. The city got 8 inches of rain over the weekend, causing flooding that sent several inches of water into the basement of what was formally known as the sears 110 story building. Workers pumped out the water, but the building rule will remain closed. Happening today, and Union Representing Hershey Store workers is calling attention to the risk workers face on the job during the covid19 pandemic. The united food and commercial Workers International union says it will release new estimates about the number of grocery food workers who contracted the virus, and who have died. All right, sal, thank you. Ridership is at an alltime low because of the pandemic, because as you know. But in just a couple weeks, for the first time, to san jose. Stations will open on june 13th, marking first right into Santa Clara County, a milestone long overdue. Ktvus Frank Mallicoat with more details. Good morning to you. Riders have waited a long time for this one. It is finally at play, and hello to the city of san jose for the first time, with a little over three weeks. A brandnew stretch of tracks, will extend for free months warm spring station for stop number one, and stop number two will be for the north san jose, linking five bay area counties. The mayor of san jose, and some other officials, gave the final safety check, a big thumbs up, yesterday. And today, we are celebrating , celebrating an opportunity to a much brighter future. The more east side of san jose, we wanted to make sure that we were able to connect the public here with opportunities around the bay. Ridership 290 because of the pandemic, but of course that will change in a short order, we all hope youre it. The first train rolls out of that station, saturday morning, june 13th, bound for richmond. And its not over yet. There is also phase two, and extension of three more stations, two in san jose. Another in santa clara. That comes with a bigger price tag, 5. 6 billion there. That is set to begin in 2022 and will take eight years to complete. Thats the very latest. It would gain 21 miles of track between cloverdale, and also start the directors of the smart train say that would give them an extra source of income. Smart also wants to cut 6 million of its budget. Back in march, voters turned down an early renewal of the one quarter cent sales tax that provided 15 of smarts annual budget. Local officials are responding after trump announced on twitter, more than 700 million in federal funding is coming to the bay area for transportation. The funds will be used to continue operations at San Francisco international airport. Money would also go to help with the economic recovery. However, this is not new information. The original announcement came out, weeks ago. This is something we received confirmation, that we know our cut will be about 254 million. For us, this will really help address our revenue shortfall. Nancy pelosi, back in march, secured funds for the transportation committed, allocated last month. The Oakland Police reports yet another employee testing positive for the coronavirus. That employee has not been at work since last thursday and is recovering in self quarantine. While employees have personal protective equipment as well as are being tested for covid19, its available for them. This is the fourth employee to test positive at the Oakland Police department. Happening today, the city of san jose and Santa Clara County are now announcing new free testing for covid19 for anyone in the county with or without symptoms. 11 00 this morning, the mayor will join other city and county leaders to provide details on the new coronavirus testing program. Testing will be offered at the powell stadium and East San Jose and Santa Clara County fragrance. Reopening after learning the governors proposed budget cuts. Joining San Francisco, oakland, and three others, they sent a letter to lawmakers asking for more funding. The superintendents argue opening schools amid the pandemic and budget cuts is just unrealistic. And several colleges and universities are making adjustments to their academic calendars because of coronavirus. The university of South Carolina , ray caesar ready, planning for a shorter semester that ends at things giving instead of christmas. These schools have also reduced or eliminated any kind of fall break to reduce the number of students and faculty travel time. Chancellors at the California State University system, considering a similar plan. Santa Clara University plans to reopen the campus in the fall, saying it will offer as many in person classes as possible. Of the administrators are considering a hybrid form with some classes staying online. It all depends on the class and day of the week. New this morning, the city of oakland says it has the goal achieved of raising 12. 5 million to provide every Oakland Public School Student Internet Access and access to a computer, and it made that goal just six days after beginning its fundraising campaign. The tsa save since the coronavirus restrictions began. 250,000 passengers were screened nationwide, up from about 90,000 per day back in midapril. Some airlines are resuming flights that had been shut down. Starting june 1st, we will resume flights to europe. This will be the first nonstop service to europe that we have seen since april 1st. Concerns over health and safety are prompting the travel industry to take new measures. Mandatory masks, sanitizing wipes, social distancing, and new cleaning protocols are all in place. Alameda county now has more confirmed coronavirus cases compared to any other county across the bay area. 55 new cases were just reported in the last 24 hours for a total of 2522. Now for months it was Santa Clara County that had the highest number of coronavirus cases, Santa Clara County now has 2483 cases, with 30 new cases reported yesterday. As of today, the bay area has more than 11,000 confirmed infections. Every bay area county, except napa, reported at least one new case in the last 24 hours. Several bay area counties are reporting more have died from coronavirus after two days of no reported deaths. At least 14 people died in alameda, santa clara, and san mateo counties in the last 24 hours. That comes after no deaths reported on sunday, and monday which has not happened since the early days of the pandemic, back in early march. Doctors say two Straight Days of no loss of life is a promising step in the right direction. You have to be careful, because two days is a very short period of time to make gross generalizations. What, the trend in the bay area, it is overall flattening. They credit the use of masks, gloves, and sheltering orders for flattening the curve. One bay area county is taking the first step, napa, got the green light from the state to move to the second part of phase two of the governors plan to reopen telephone you. Ktvus Sara Zendehnam live , to explore the changes here, sarah . Reporter one of the biggest changes people will notice is that you are allowed to eat inside of a restaurant again. We spoke to the owner of downtown jos, in napa. He said he opened for dinein services this morning, 8 00, and hopes to see customers today. Its all part of the end of phase two. The state approved plan to move to the second part of this phase, effective, immediately. This is the first county in the bay area to get to this point. That means restaurants can open for dinein services, and people can shop at nonessential stores, malls, and swap meets. These are open with strict guidelines, including maintaining distance, wearing face coverings, and sanitization protocols. Another important note, schools will be allowed to reopen, june 1st, but districts have the final say in their lands on that. Not in phase two though, wineries and tasting rooms. While its a major heart of the countys economy, those businesses cannot open until phase three. We spoke to one woman who lives in napa about the reopening. We asked her about how she feels when she leaves her house these days. I have not felt weird at all. I think the weird part is how ople are acting about it. The, at the end of the day, if you abide by the rules, you dont have to get weird about it. Reporter on monday night, napa county submitted and as a patient to the deferment of health, highlighting how the county meets the states reopening criteria. As of tuesday, the county had 92 cases of coronavirus. 10 people were hospitalized. Six were in the icu, and three had died. The governor has said churches could start looking to welcome back worshipers in the coming weeks. Telephone is Fitness Industry has come together to safely reopen during the pandemic. The California Fitness reliance will work with state and local officials to set and define safe and effective statewide reopening standards and guidelines. Riders have waited a long time for this, not to mention the 2. 3 billion price tag, but it is completed. Bart will finally say hello to the city of san jose, in a little over three weeks in the month of june. The new track will stretch south, some 10 miles through fremont, with its first stop in county. Commuters in both the south and east bay but very excited they finally have a ride into the bay areas because its city. If you were to work in hayward, and you have a job in san jose, now you can just take part. Its good they are opening more stations. I actually grew up around here, so i am really excited to be able to take public transit, being that that hasnt been the strength of san jose. So, the addition of milpitas and various will have hundred 30 miles of track across the bay area. The first train will pull out, 7 56 a. M. , on saturday, june 13th, and it will be bound for richmond. Up next, its phase two of the extension project. That means three more stations, two in downtown san jose, and one in santa clara, with the price tag some 5. 6 billion. A vote is set to be held, and smart would gain track and haul freight. Directors say this would give it an additional source of income, but smart is looking for way to cut from its budget. In march, voters turned down a Quarter Sales tax that provides 15 of smarts annual budget. 8 35. Officials responding after President Trump announcing funding is coming to the bay area for transportation. Those funds will be used to support continued operations at San Francisco international airport. Money will also go to help with economic recovery. This isnt new information. The new announcement came out weeks ago. This is something that we had already received confirmation of. We know that our cut will be about 254 million. For us, this will really help address our revenue shortfall. Back in march, house speaker, nancy pelosi, secured 1. 3 billion for transport, allocating the first batch of that money last month. The Oakland Police department is reporting another employee has tested positive for coronavirus. Officials say the employee has not been to work since last thursday and is recovering in self correnti. All personnel have ppe and testing available. This is the fourth employee to test positive at the Oakland Police department. Testing now underway at laguna hospital, in San Francisco. This comes after four more people tested positive for covid19. Two are Staff Members. The other two are residents so far of the 2500 staff and residents combined, 718 residents and with an 1300 Staff Members have been tested. The universal testing allows the hospital to protect residents and staff from exposure by identifying covid 19 cases among people who do not show any symptoms. Happening today, the city of san jose and Santa Clara County are announcing a new free testing for covid19 for anyone in the county, with or without symptoms. At 11 00 as money, san joses mayor will join other city and county leaders to provide details on the new testing program. The testing will be offered at the santa clary, Santa Clara County fairgrounds. School districts, saying they may have to delay reopening their schools when they learned about governor newsoms budget cuts to schools across the state. The los angeles unified, joint San Francisco, oakland, and three others in sending a letter to legislators requesting more funding. The superintendents argue opening schools in a pandemic with cuts to their budgets is unrealistic. Several colleges and universities are making adjustments to their academic calendars in the fall, because of the coronavirus. The university of South Carolina , among those planning for a shorter semester that ends at things giving, instead of just before christmas. These schools have also reduced or eliminated any kind of fall break to reduce students and faculty traveling. The chancellor of the California State University system is considering a similar plan. Several airlines are reporting an uptick in demand for travel as the Summer Vacation season approaches. Southwest says new bookings now outpace cancellations. United says its seeing a moderate improvement. American Airlines Says planes are flying about 35 capacity. Up from just 15 last month. Air canada says it is seeing an improvement in demand as well. Airport screenings are at the highest level since travel restrictions began. On friday, 250,000 passengers were screened, nationwide. That is up from about 90,000 per day in mid april. Sfo, some airlines are resuming flights abroad that had been shut down. Starting, june 1st, we will resume flights to europe. This will be the first nonstop service, from sfo to europe that we have seen since april 1st. Concerns over health and safety are prompting the travel industry to take new measures to metadate, mandate social distancing, and cleansing protocols.
