It is always a reflection of other things that are going on in society. This is not an exception to that. If you are going to look back at a time probably has equal precedent, look all the way back to 1968, the summer olympics of 1968 in mexico city. Moments that led up to those games, if youre going to look at a time when sports has been this impactful societally among other things that are happening in our society. You, tommy smith and giancarlo, the 66 olympics at a steep price for raising their fist like this on the stand. Joe, as we mentioned at the top, this is truly unprecedented. Actually is. Again, the thing that led up to that in 1968, the statement as well, it was the olympic project for human rights that led up to that where number of the africanamerican athletes had talked about boycotting those games. If you remember in fact then, la center, later Kareem Abdul Jabbar did not play on the u. S. Basketball team that year when he was eligible to be an olympian. So that was something felt during those times and i am often asked in those sports, you are often asked to stay in your lane. I would not always in the sports has always been reflective, whether it is mom and ali, whether it is jim brown but as you mentioned, the question about whether or not this is unprecedented you have to go all the way back to the 60s i think to find a time when things were happening were athletes felt this strongly about that they were willing to potentially risk income for making a public stand. Yeah. Joe, thank you. Now, a look at our weather. The air quality, a live look from our camera pointed out mt. Diablo. You can see, it is not as clear as it has been on other days. This is not really a good smoke shop but it is a foggy shot. Kind of shows you the coastal sections with some pretty good air quality today. But in the end, places like lafayette was pretty bad and nap i. Was real bad today. Just depended where you are. There is pockets of it. That is why, as frank mentioned, the airport just expended the spare the air alert through the barrier of the bay area for friday. We talked about this last night too, a cumulative but this was one or two days, no big deal. Going day after day, they can build up, especially in sensitive groups, elderly, young, people with respiratory issues, asthma. And the other day, i was out running around and you get the burn, right . That is what you feel out there. It is not good, you get particulate matter in your lungs which is not what you want to do. Okay, the big weather story right now, i mean this is big. This is hurricane laura. It is a category four now. Looks like it is going to come on shore around lake charles, port arthurhouston area. Late tonight, early tomorrow morning, the next few hours essentially, winds will be barreling in at 150 miles per hour. The thing to point out with this system is you dont get this it will be historic if it comes on shore as a category four. You dont get category fours in this lake charles area very much. What will also happen as you will see ace storm surge on the right side of this system around lake charles and that storm surge could be 20 feet. Imagine taking 20 feet of water to clear out. What have we got right here . In the marine of the santa cruz, 21 feet of water on the high tide with winds pushing in. The storm surge is going to be, well, the National WeatherService Called it, an survivable. Okay . That tells you everything you want to know. What is the most damaging thing about our hurricane . Storm surge. Absolutely, it messes with it is such creates such force, you know, a storm surge, 20 feet possible. Heres a track of it. The system as it moves through, it will be the story will be gone by 10 00 tonight we know a heck of a lot but then this moisture flies up through the Mississippi Valley and creates excessive rain. This will be a big rain event too. Perhaps 15 maybe 20 inches of rain in that area. This looks to be a historic, category four major hurricane event. Hurricane laura looks like it is going to be coming on for the next few hours and keep that up to tonight at 10 00.
