Walter reed Medical Center. This all comes less than a day after he and First Lady Melania Trump both tested positive for covid19. Welcome everyone to the four i am alex salvage. I am heather holmes, the white house says President Trump will spend a few days at the Military Hospital on the advice of doctors. We began life coverage now with political reporter greg lee who has been tracking the latest developments about the president s help. Reporter a rapidly changing story from late last night to where we are now. Last night President Trump announcing he and the first lady had tested positive for the coronavirus. This morning we heard that he had mild symptoms, and now he has been taken to Walter Reed Medical Center. I want to make this clear again, the white house saying they are mild symptoms and this is out of an abundance of caution. Marine one took out from the white houses outline flying President Trump to Walter Reed Medical Center. The white house said the move is out of an abundance of caution and at the recommendation of his physician. Less than 24 hours after the president and first lady said they tested positive for coronavirus and experienced mild symptoms. The physician said President Trump received an antibiotic cocktail, the staff scrambling to adjust to the shopping scenario. I just spoke with the chief of staff and President Trump talk to him about emergency declarations and the stimulus. We are trying to make sure he takes it easy, he is hard at work. The white house has to be looking at the 25th amendment, and it has a couple of causes, but basically it talks about a situation where the prthe perso country. This has happened in the past. Reporter tracing and testing continues including those at the debate, intelligence meetings, rallies and a fundraiser after one of President Trumps top aides, hope hicks, tested positive. What he has is a virus that is contagious that certainly continues to be, regardless of any protocol we have, that he has the ability to infect everybody. He has been exposed to a lot of people and you will see a lot of cases. In the white house im sure they have quarantined everybody and trace everybody. Reporter Vice President mike pence tested negative as did the democratic ticket joe biden and kemal harris. My wife jill and i pray that they make a quick recovery. This is not a matter of politics, it is a bracing reminder to all of us that we have to take the virus seriously. Reporter republican senator mike lee who sits on the Judiciary Panel tested positive. He was a guest at the nominee announcement saturday and at least four guests have the virus. Judge Amy Coney Barrett tested negative. It would be dangerous to move forward with the confirmation hearing against the news but republicans say full steam ahead. At this point i still think it makes political sense for republicans to keep pushing. Reporter the president s trademark large rallies will go virtual or be postponed. It is unclear if the two remaining president ial debates will go on. The president s diagnosis highlighting the need to socially distance and wear masks to prevent the spread and his frequent fighting of those guidelines. It is bad news for his health and bad news we talk about the coronavirus and the worse it is for President Trump, again because he downplayed it for so long. Reporter now both sides of the aisle obviously saying the focus right now should be on the president s health and hope for a speedy recovery. That being said congressional leaders including House Speaker nancy pelosi told reporters this afternoon they were not briefed or told that the president was going to walter reed which is certainly not the protocol. Reporting live greg lee, ktvu fox 2 news. All right, and you have that expert there talking about the 25th amendment, we just want to clarify. As of now there has been no tranf absolutely. Reporter one of the press secretaries were asked to on the south lawn as he was boarding marine one, she said the president is still very much in power right now, there has been no voluntary transfer power at the moment. All right greg lee following these developments for us, thank you greg. This is the most Serious Health threat to a sitting president in modern history. Joining us now for more perspectives former chief medical officer with the department of health and Human Services and a professor at Stanford School of medicine. Dr. Singh good to have you on here this afternoon as we watch these remarkable events unfolding in washington, d. C. President trump airlifted to Walter Reed Medical Center just minutes ago here. The white house saying this is done out of an you, anything about the seriousness of his condition . So of course if president is infected which he is, that in and of itself is serious, and all precautions should be taken. I agree with that, i was there as a medical student at walter reed and had a teaching appointment there and i know that the medicine is excellent, something that we need to ensure that the president gets. We also know today that he received a regeneron cocteau and all of these provisions are being done for the president and they are absolutely necessary given the gravity of the situation. But if the president is at the white house and is doing relatively well, his symptoms described by white house officials as being mild with a fatigue and fever reportedly, why then move him to walter reed . What do you think prompted that . So that is a great question alex, we know that President Trump falls into the more high risk category due to his age, he is 74 years old. You know he also perhaps has a higher body mass index, so a little overweight, so he may have those as risk factor is. And though he is in good health and he has what would be considered right now mild symptoms of fatigue and fever, you cant take it too lightly. At walter reed he will still have the ability to govern from the president ial offices on the premises, but there is also the ability to administer any other medical therapeutics such as antiretro violence, red or other agents, and provide oxygen if necessary. If the situation changes they can address it immediately and much more easily with a team of experts that are definitely watching over him. Okay so the white house physician also said today that President Trump is being treated with an experimental cocktail made by regeneron pharmaceuticals. What you know about the effectiveness of this treatment . Reporter thats right dr. Connolly released a press release regarding regeneron, eight grams of onetime infusion given to the president. He generally tolerated this infusion from what im understanding. Regeneron anybody cocktail is a monochrome only anybody comedies monochrome laddie bodies we discussed here on ktvu and across the nation, these are really important in the way of medical therapeutics in that they clone and mimic the very anybodys that are able to neutralize the sellers to virus. And by doing that they are able to prevent the virus from infecting the cells and thereby alleviating the symptoms. The key indications in the still are thatis infected and may be asymptomatic or no symptoms all the way to mild dorm moderate symptoms. And the studies thus far share that it likely lessens the symptoms that people could have. So there are other companies that are doing this, mainly eli lilly and others. There is great promise in this, in fact what i have seen indicates that they are hopeful to have several hundred thousand doses, some folks are saying that the person would need to test negative for the anybody and have positive for the virus, but others are stating that just having high risk people who test positive for the virus early on and getting this kind of a cocktail early on, would likely alleviate symptoms which is what the hope is with the president. Certainly, yah, and we await further updates from the professionals at Walter Reed Medical Center in washington. Nursing we certainly appreciate your perspective this afternoon thank you for coming on. We of course will continue to follow the story and bring you more live reports from the Nations Capital coming up at 4 30 and you can find the very latest information on our website ktvu. Com. Well now to the very latest this afternoon on the glass fire which burns out of control in the north bay. It has grown now to 3000 acre since yesterday and has burned more than 60,000 acres in both napa and sonoma counties. Containment has inched up to 6 , but a red flag warning has been extended in strong winds could make the firefighting more difficult. Nearly 29,000 structures including homes and businesses remain threatened. We are looking forward to decreasing winds and temperatures, and decreasing humidities which would give our firefighters and our boots on the Ground Fighting chance to gain additional perimeter control and start to bring some nothese effect did areas and get people back home. We have a long way to go. The spire is only 6 contained is 60,000 acres plus. So i am asking for your patience. Now almost 600 buildings have been destroyed in the spire including 220 homes in napa and sonoma counties, more than 100 others have also been damaged. We have been covering the fire for the last several days and he joins us live this afternoon. Tom . Reporter wont you take a look . This is the street in calistoga, this is called lincoln avenue, as you can see it is not only bereft of any kinds of folks here except for official vehicles like that police car, but it is also about as smoky as smokey gets. For calistoga here on the napa valley four, and 1200 feet above in the mountains it is an ongoing battle to keep these communities intact and alive. Overnight the glass fire came up very close to calistogas city limits, taking out some structures and seriously damaging some significantly significant and tourist hot springs and dining mecca. Outside of the city limits there has been pretty significant loss residential and commercial to the west of us, to the east of us, and certainly to the south of us. Reporter inside the town there was a scare that turned out to be unrelated to the wildfire. There was utility shed and appears to be an electrical issue, the Fire Department was on it immediately and put it out. No further issues are resulting from it. Reporter but with active flames and unlimited hotspots all around town officials are waiting with baited breath. We are in red flag down until 6 00 a. M. Tomorrow. What we are hoping to avoid is a wind event this evening. Reporter this is what the glass fire looks like when it is socalled laid down. Without a lot of wind it continues to burn but not voraciously. The problem is put any wind ono significant issues as they flared up enough to require helicopters to slow the fires down. Then ground crews working along the side with bulldozers worked all day to build fire lines. All of this to try to keep the flames from crossing highway 29 on their way down to calistoga and many mountainside homes. We have fire on the west of us, we have fire on the east of us creeping along, cal fire and all the fire resources are doing the best they can. Reporter there is so much smoke here on the valley floor it looks like it is bathed in a deep fog, but it is a deceptively deep fog that hides the stark reality, the spire is nowhere near done with its destruction, potential and real. Tom vacar, ktvu fox 2 news. That smoke is really something, and tom i guess because of the smoking conditions it really has had an impact on the aerosol on the spire . Reporter it has had an impact because they have to the helicopters especially, they have to look for like a quick opener so they can get in there. If they cant do that then they have to sit there and either hover or go on to some other place. So that has been a real big problem here, and is going to continue to be a real big problem as long as this area is relatively stable as it is. If the wind starts blowing you have fire danger but you begin to see where the fire is and you can bring in heavier access to do something about it. Yeah, it is really a catch 22, more wind obviously creates more problems but does allow for some of those air assistants. All right 1044 reporting live for us this afternoon in calistoga, thank you tom. Now to the deadly sod fire still burning up in shasta county, the fire now for the 6 contained this afternoon and officials expect the containment line around the fire to increase over the next few days. This fire started on sunday and has charred more than 56,000 acres, that is about 87 square miles. Four people have and killed in that fire. Re on President Trump who has now been taken to Walter Reed Hospital, after testing positive for covid19. We will go liagain today an expert will join us to talk about why we are seeing these conditions and ktvu meteorologist will have the air quality we can expect over the weekend. Poor air quality all across the bay area today. As you can see from our cameras here hazes lingering. Mostly smoke from the glass fire still burning in wine country, in napa and simona counties. Experts say it is causing dangerous conditions and they suggesting indoors whenever possible. Joining us now to talk about this is ralph bowman with the bay area air Quality Management district. Ralph good to have you on, we appreciate it. It really seems like the smoke and haze in the air started to get bad late in the day yesterday and into today. We could start to smell it, why was that . So airquality today is a little bit worse than yesterday, it is perhaps the worst, the highest numbers we have seen in the last two weeks. And we expect we will not see much change through the weekend. As we have some of the highest impacts and areas in the north bay, and east bay. So obviously we have the huge fire, the glass fire, that still you are burning essentially out of control up in napa and sonoma counties, we are getting a lot of smoke from that fire. Are we seeing smoke being pushed into the bay area from some of the other fires across the state that are still burning . Yeah, what is happening with the glass fire occurring just east of calistoga, as long as that is burning in the region we will have some impact somewhere depending on which way the wind is blowing. But we are also getting the cumulative impact of smoke from all of the fires in northern california. Keep in mind right now, today, we have smoke over the entire northern part of the state from west of the sierras, extending through 50 miles offshore. With some sort of the smoke is extending. So obviously we know that the air Quality Management district is issuing the spare the air alerts looking out at least the next five days or so. So we can expect unhealthy air, similar conditions. Why is it going to be so hard to really push the smoke out of here . So, you know i cannot tell you the in depth on the meteorology, but basically there will not be much change through the weekend. But hopefully as we get into next week, we will have some cooler temperatures, onshore winds, that is a possibility. It is not for sure yet. But that will hopefully if it does occur push some of the smoke out of the bay area and give us some clean air for a change. But right now that is still a week away so we are not there yet. All right, and in the meantime you would urge obviously everybody to try and stay indoors as much as possible, right . Yeah, if you are smelling smoke you are probably getting impacted by it. Stay indoors with the windows and doors closed. If you are using an air conditioner put it on recirculate. If you are still having some air packs impact you have Clean Air Centers in each county you can go to that you will have filtered air. All right, good suggestions there. Ralph bowman Public Information officer with the bay area air Quality Management district, thank you for coming on. Thank you. Well in bay area whether i usually like to do my weather up dates outside in nature, but of course inside today because of all the smoke that has been interrupting overhead. Air quality levels as referenced if you minutes ago have really spiked up here in portions of the bay area. The satellite is picking up on the smoke layer this afternoon as well. It looks like a milky haze ove portions of california. We do have some fog offshore, that is interesting as you can see out here in the pacific, we are watching out for some of the fog and lots of haze over the region. We are watching conditions closer to the glass fire. Temperatures . Another warm day with lots of 80s and 90s. The winds are up a little bit, some of the sensors say 3 to 12 Miles Per Hour. The winds are expect it to pulse up later this evening. The red flag warning continues, not only in the north bay and areas around the glass fire but also the Santa Cruz Mountains and the east bay hills until 6 00 a. M. Tomorrow. So the winds could be picking up tonight on the order of 20 to 25 Miles Per Hour, we are very dry basically right now around 10 to 20 . This forecast model we show you some of the winds tonight, and they go up a bit probably in the Higher Elevations and for the higher terrain we could have gusts of up to 25 Miles Per Hour. Then you will notice this the winds are actually back up tomorrow morning, increasing out of the rest west by tomorrow afternoon. Tomorrow morning picking up as we head into saturday afternoon. In terms of the temperatures and the relative humidity, a rather warm start tomorrow morning, and then tomorrow probably not as hot as today but still approaching the mid 90s by tomorrow afternoon. Relative humidity could be around 17 to 20 . Here is a look at th
