People are getting ready with sandbags and extra supplies if theres a storm surge, which sometimes happens with Something Like this, then, you know, were just praying for the best because it can be pretty bad this afternoon , Los Angeles County officials urged people to get ready for what they called a difficult and unique weather event. Get ready , sign up for alerts, make a plan. So if you if you have the ability to understand where you would go, if you are evacuated, other family members or friends houses, those are all things that are a lot easier to do prior to the emergency occurring. Boat owners in Southern California, including redondo beach, are getting ready for the storm, making sure vessels are properly secured. Yeah. Meteorologist Roberto Gonzales is joining us now with a look at how this is going to really impact really mexico, Southern California. Were hearing about possible impacts in nevada as far east as phenix, arizona. So this is a major storm, not something were accustomed here. Usually when you see this scale, the dimension of a storm, you start off with an area low pressure. Its upgraded to a tropical depression, then a Tropical Storm, then a hurricane. Then you have a major hurricane when winds are over 110mph. And thats what we are dealing with. And we havent seen anything like this in our lifetime here in the bay area or in Southern California. And keep in mind, a watch means heads up. A warning means it is happening right now and taking. And that is going to be the next step for everybody in Southern California as we see hurricane hillary not make landfall, but scrape across cabo san lucas. Also, all the baja, california. Itll lose a little bit of its punch. So then it becomes a Tropical Storm. Its downgraded. But dont get me wrong, itll still have a big punch. Were talking about rain amounts anywhere between three and six inches. And a lot of these areas are below sea level. Keep that in mind right here in california. And 3 to 6in of rain. Well, thats usually what you get in a whole year in los angeles or in san diego. Hey, how about palm springs . So thats its location right now. You see the tip of baja, california right here. This is right now forecast to scrape across baja, california, lose a lot of its punch and then begin to veer into Southern California. Thats what we look like here. We have clouds, but thats from Tropical Storm eugene thats been spinning its wheels off our coast. This is what were dealing with right here. This is a category four on a scale of 1 to 5. So this is going to continue its northerly direction. Then we have a little bit of a great flavor idea of how its going to move now. And as it does so. Okay, you look at this right here. This is the cone were not talking about up like this. Were talking about the outer lines here. So it has a lot of territory it can encompass. And were not talking necessarily about the eye, the winds associated with this hurricane are several hundred miles wide. So thats why theyre already seeing the clouds and the wind and baja, california, even though they havent felt its impact yet. So once it goes into Southern California again, computer models take it this way. Thats not going to happen. Another computer model takes it on this path here, and that does happen. Orange county is going to be more affected than, lets say, palm springs. But i have it. Yeah, its going to affect Orange County with Copious Amounts of rain and wind and already starting to see the surf build the potential of a very strong storm surge. Also on the backside of this, what will become a Tropical Storm. But then it will lift up towards bakersfield and palm springs and death valley, which is below sea level. And then make its tracks in towards las vegas by monday. And weve seen the flooding along the strip there with just a monsoon storm. So this is something that we have to take very seriously as it continues its jog and continues to wander towards california. Again, the timing, the rain should begin late Night Saturday and throughout nevada and also in arizona. But the biggest punch will be on sunday as far as san diego is concerned. And the los angeles areas you were talking about, long beach and san pedro and all the way into norwalk and also all the way into the Desert Southwest and the desert. Boy thats a lot of arid hard, hard ground. And they dont have anywhere for that water to go except for mass flash flooding, mudslides, debris flows. Its going to be a very desperate situation, something that we havent seen, potentially catastrophic. And we will stay on top of it throughout this newscast. All right, roberta, we will keep checking in with you. Thank you so much.
