Now thousands in our area are without power. Good evening to you, im jessica dean. It has been another summer night of Severe Weather alerts includeing a Tornado Warning. We have team thee coverage of these damaging storms and we start with meteorologist kate bilo with a look whats happening right now. Kate. Jessica the best news that the storms have moved on out and the Severe Threat has ended in fact just in the past minute or so i got word Flash Flood Warning that had been in effect for the city of philadelphia portions of montgomery, bucks counties and Burlington County has also expired or been canceled. So the worst is now gone. You can see the storms are now out to sea but this was at least six hours of Severe Weather that ripped from west to east all across the area. Leaving damage in its wake, and a lot of damage at that. Lets take look. This is a sixhour loop first you can see the storms pushing that was berks county right about here. Thats the storm that could have caused the damage to that school. Then the storms moved through philadelphia slowly pushing into new jersey where we Tornado Warning in Burlington County still no word if tornado that touched down or not. It was a doppler indicated tornado. Few showers to the west you can see this hook that came through just north of reading. In fact i want to show you a couple of more those photos the school that was damaged in portions of berks county. This is near till don am hamburg just north and west of reading. You can see this school is almost completely demolish. I tried to look for tornado signature could have been a little bit of rotation detected with that still remains to be seen whether this was a tornado that moved through berks county or better wet water actually Straight Line winds or micro burst winds much you can see the extent of that devastation that school completely leveled there in till don berks county. Back to storm scan3 as we move through the rest of tonight things are quiting down. I want to show you how much rain has fallen. Many spots checked in with over 2inches of rain and while some wind damage reports as well in berks county roof damage reported five homes in downingtown trees and wires down down. Partial collapse of three buildings in new castle delaware Norristown Pa large tree branches reported down and in wood side, delaware, a large number of trees down as well. So you can see as the rain spread through the region right around philadelphia, southern bucks county into Burlington County very heavy rain on the order of two plus inches but the good news is despite a stray shower lingering to night well clear thing out. Tomorrow starts with sunshine and the afternoon looks great. As we begin a friday it looks like a pretty nice summer weekend. Eyewitness News Reporter david spunt is live in Washington Square west where a large tree has blocked a street. David . Reporter jessica you expect to see these things in wide open areas but not the city especially Washington Square with these buildings. Take look at this tree it looks very healthy from the ground up but obviously the root structure underneath just could not hold this tree from the win i want to back out of the way so you can see this. Were at the 1100 block of rodman street much this tree just completely collapsed over from this wind and hit this home home. Now we want to she you some Surveillance Video that we got from somebody that lives on this street. It actually shows you the moment that the tree fell down. The winds started to pick up and thats when that tree literally slammed into the building. The good news nobody was hurt. I had chance to speak to that person that lives in that building. She was home and believe it or not she says that she didnt even hear it hit the house. Take a listen. During the storm, i was putting my son to bed and i got a text from neighbor saying are you okay . I said yeah, were fine. And then 20 minutes later she rank our doorbell and said are you sure youre fine and i said, yeah. Then she said why dont you look out the win dome dont you know a tree wept against your house and i had no idea. We were completely shocked. Reporter no power lines hit at all but peco crews are expected to come out here just to take look to make sure that there is no serious damage again its just amazing how quickly this happened and especially with a tree this old. I talk to neighbor thats been here 20 years he tells me a lot of these trees are old and it really doesnt take that much wind to knock these over but the good news jessica nobody was hurt tonight because after all this could have been a lot worse. Peco is reporting 7,129 homes and businesses without power. Dell ma march have a nearly 4900. Pse g over 3800. Ac electric reporting 1,176. And med he had 912. There were Power Outages earlier today following a fire and explosion after a manhole erupted in the heart of old city city. Eyewitness news cameras were the only ones rolling as dark smoke billowed out of the ground ground. Now this force the evacuations in parts of old city and street closures blocks from historic landmarks there. Authorities say a blown transformer caused the fire and explosion but no one was injured injured. In the morning historic change will take place in South Carolina after the governor took action on the Confederate Flag today. The Confederate Flag is coming off the grub of the South Carolina state house. applause . Moments after those remarks republican governor nicky haley signed a bill removing the Confederate Flag from the grounds of the State Capitol in columbia. It will come down tomorrow at 9 00 a. M. Just became part of the culture. Part of what people who grew up, and there was a lot of denial that confederacy had anything to do with slavery. Gregory irwin professor of American Military history at temple youve says the flag carried by the Southern Army during the civil war means Different Things to different people but one thing cannot be denied. By taking this confederate symbol off the State Capitol grounds, its like South Carolina is finally saying, without any reservation were back in the united states. Its not known what happened before the cameras started rolling on locust avenue in East Germantown april 3rd. It was a los angeles blog kerr who posted this video yesterday and identified the suspect as 22yearold tyree carol. Officers are seen in the video repeatedly punching and kicking carol whose lying face down. He was malt thely dug with assault and drug offense and. Officers were injured attempt attempting to arrest that suspect. Police toll us as the officers stop the defendant he began to fight witness officers biting one of the officers a total of three times thigh hand and arm. The defendant also bit another officer on the forearm during this arrest. The entire incident is being reviewed now for any developmental violations. Today u. S. Youve had a very busy night with the severe storms that moved through. Now kind of looks like its clearing out but man. There was some damage. It was a rough night and lots of damage left behind in the wake of these storms from berks county into delaware and even into portions of new jersey. Well be watching these storms moving offshore through the overnight hours and then things improving quite a bit as we head through the weekend. I want to start you off here with time lapsed video the storms moving through center city this is from go pro mounted at our studios you can see how dark it got very very quickly the buildings completely blotted out as that heavy rain came through. I was watching from the sky deck trying to broadcast live on per scope and showing people that you couldnt even see the buildings the rain was coming in the door. Got me completely soaked and the winds were just how long in the city with lots of lightning and thunder. Then eventually it did start to die down and start to die out a little bit which of course is good news.
