Reporter parts of the city are trying to reopen for business leading to tensions. As an officer tried to reopen a busy boulevard searchers and family members who wanted silence protested. Still hoping to hear sounds from poseurvivors under the rubble. And a number of people rescued from collapsed buildings in mexico has reached nearly 70 but as the days go on the hopes of finding other diminishes. Still crews continue to search. Live in the sat center alycia nieves, cbs3 Eyewitness News. Alycia thank you. Also Hurricane Maria devastated puerto rico. Power is knocked out for millions. Communication nearly nonexistent at this point and now there is a new threat. A dam in puerto rico thats in danger of breaking is Still Holding at least for now. But according to the governor, about 70,000 people near the dam should still evacuate. Forecasters said that a dam breach could lead to potentially lifethreatening flooding downstream. Its just another reason philadelphia is opening its doors to evacuees. Eyewitness News Reporter anita oh caught up with some folks who made it in on a late night flight on friday. I thought we were going to die. An emotional Angela Rivera spoke with Eyewitness News after touching down at Philadelphia International airport late friday night. Evacuated into a ballroom room. The walls were shaking floor was shaking. Then they moved us to the stairwell where for eight hours we were 20 people in a room the size of a bathroom. And the wind just sounded like a freight train. Rivera who lives in manchester new jersey says she flew to puerto rico a week ago for vacation and spent three days in peace before the storm. How fast it developed. But she praises the people of puerto rico who helped her and so many others to safety in a time of complete chaos. Everything is down. They have no power, no water. They have nothing. Nothing. And whatever they had, they were willing to share with each and every one of us. They are a wonderful people. Myra soto and her children also landed in philadelphia from the same flight after waiting for hours at the airport. She says it had to resort to Old Fashioned Security Check in methods verifying each person and bag by hand due to lack of power. Theres no light. Theres no food. Theres no electricity. Theres no gas. So, everybody we survived something that we never imagine. Anita oh, cbs3 Eyewitness News. Well, we are following some breaking news right now. Philadelphia police are investigating shots fired at officers in north philadelphia tonight. Were live near 13th and york street here where police have set up a perimeter. Officers say two men were firing rounds at police in this area. Allegedly unprovoked. Officers did return fire but we are told nobody was injured. Both of the men ran after this exchange. Now, we also understand that police arent allowing any transportation through that area right now while that investigation is ongoing. Also police are investigating possible acid attacks at a Shopping Center in london. Video has now emerged on social media showing Emergency Services on the scene. Police say they were called to the area surrounding Stratford Center in east london after reports of a group of males spraying what was believed to be a noxious substance. Six people were reportedly injured. One person was arrested. Police are not investigating this as a terror attack at this point. And now in other news tonight firefighters respond to a hazmat situation in wilmington, delaware. Officials say 18 workers at the dupont experimental station were possibly exposed to an unknown substance. Eyewitness news on powder mill road this morning. The workers went through a decontamination process and were taken to the hospital. Officials say none of them were seriously injured. And Philadelphia Police meantime are investigating a deadly hitandrun on broad street. Eyewitness news here at broad and glenwood avenue where officers say a man was hit in the intersection by a sedan just before 1 oclock this morning. He was taken to temple hospital where he later died. Now, police say they have a suspect in custody but they have not released his or her identity yet. Thousands turned out for the annual heros thrill show at the Wells Fargo Center today. Its the way to show the family members of local First Responders who made the ultimate sacrifice they are supported and their loved ones will never be forgotten. Alycia nieves has that story. Reporter the 63rd annual heros thrill show philadelphias finest performing putting on a show that shows those who have fallen they are not forgotten. This is a incredible tradition for a very worthy cause. Everybody pitches in and makes it happen and it means a lot to our members to know that this great city has their back 24 7. Reporter Emergency Responders with the city give all they have at this show every year because it raises money that pays for College Tuitions for the children of philadelphias firefighters and Police Officers killed in the line of duty. Not i just want to tell you we love you. Reporter every year at the show theres this moment recognizing those families whose loved ones sacrificed it all. Feel the love from everyone and its really, you know, a good feeling that we have these people to rely on. Reporter none of this would be possible without the thousands who attend. My father used to bring me down when it was at j. F. K. So just kind of carrying on the tradition with my son. We support them as much as we can whenever we can. They have a tough job, a thankless job. Your presence here today is a testament to the fact that we dont forget our Fallen Heroes and their families. We cant say enough about these family members, many of them who are here today and we always celebrate them and lift them up. Also more tributes to the fallen at the Sports Complex this weekend. The Philadelphia Fire Department hosted the first annual 9 11 Memorial Stair Climb and 5k walk. Eyewitness news at lincoln financial field. The stair climb honors the memories of the 343 Fallen Heroes lost in the 9 11 terror attacks on the world trade center. 16 years later, you know, weve rallied up and raised some money for the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation and were going to climb 110 steps to simulate climbing to the top of the world trade centers. Some of the proceeds will benefit the new york city Fire Department counseling unit. The Jenkintown Community came together tonight to raise money for Hurricane Relief through music. Well, local restaurants contributed food and drinks to the relief concert as music played. All of the donations will be sent to the Brothers Brother Foundation its based in pittsburgh, pennsylvania. Its one of 10 charities rated by forbes with 100 percent fundraising efficiency. The concert runs through midnight tonight so you still got some time, lauren. Temperatures right now, were still in the 70s in allentown, still in the 70s in wildwood. Were near 70 degrees in trenton and even mild in mount pocono near 60 degrees. Theres our High Temperature about 13 degrees above our average. 88 today. And as we head into the day tomorrow, for the birds game, taking on the giants, sunshine, 91 degrees and it will be our first 90degree reading of the month so far. On average though in philadelphia our average date of our last 90degree day or above is typically september 1st. Our latest ever to occur october 10th. So, yeah, were running way beyond that average date with those 90s in store for tomorrow. Stormstorm scan3 showing us the trend of the day. High pressure in control but still keeping an eye on Hurricane Maria. Still a major hurricane. You can see that clear and well defined eye, winds at 115 Miles Per Hour as of the latest advisory from the National Hurricane center just about 15 minutes ago. Motion off to the north at about 9 miles an hour. But even a better looking cone of uncertainty for the northeast with more of a dramatic easterly turn in the long range. Still a category one as it is offshore of the eastern seaboard. Well still have to keep an eye on it as we head into the next several days but at this point looks like well only see indirect impacts here in the Delaware Valley from maria and we have some good concentus suspect in our models. We could see more direct impacts along the outer banks of north carolina. A cold front looks like it will kick maria out to sea as we head into the long range and spare us those direction impacts into the second half of next week.
