Day after Dow Jones Industrial average close add above 23,000 seasoned investors are remembering a dubious anniversary to day marks 30 years since the crash of 1987. Despite record highs we have a lot to learn from that historic day, cbs News Business analyst Jill Schlesinger joins us live from new york, good morning, jill. Good morning. Jill, tell us what is behind a recent rise in stocks this years gains are mostly due to an increase in global growth, strong corporate earnings and low interest rates. The combination of which has push dow jones higher. We have gone through 20,000, 21, 22, now 23 you this level just this year. Since rally began in march 2009 the dow jones has tripled itself, more than 250 percent, now it is 103 months old, this is the second wronges bull market on record, unfortunately that can breed complacency. All right, jill what can we learn from the crash of 1987 and how investors protect themselves today. Reporter that day became known as black monday because dow jones plumeted 508 points. Let me dot percentage conversion for you. That is as if it were, 5,000 points today. That still remains single war one day percentage loss, okay. So i know it is impossible to predict a crash. There are three defensive actions that you might want to take especially with how long this bull market has gone on. One, keep an ample emergency reserve fund. We recommend six to 12 months of living expenses. Creator update a thorough financial plan, you know, kind that doesnt look at good times we like bad markets too. And adhere to and rebalance a diversified portfolio, i cannot tell you how much this can help protect you, when or if the next crash does occur. For more on how black monday was the predicate to the financial crisis of 2008. And why it may endanger markets today . Go to jill on money. Com. I remember that crash. I lost whooping 800 and my 2,000. 401 k and i remember sitting with my head, my mother said snap out, you are young, you will rebound. It got back. Got my 800 back, jill. Yep. Good times cant last forever. Despite a record turnout on a fun, rowdy crowd last year nfl draft well, wont be held again on the parkway this year this could have an impact. Coowner says it could be the spirit of former patrons trying to get a good seat what do you think. I think minor earthquake. Little tremors. Just to have float in and out, get what you want. Thestions we cannot answer on this show. It is above our pay grade. You can tell us what the weather will be like. Indeed, i can and it is looking incredibly quiet so my twiddling thumb day justin, we have got, gorgeous pictures to she as a result from the eyewitness weather watchers. Really pretty blue skies, foliage shot from ed, phil has some from yesterday, he had a pretty one from this morning, several in fact couple cloud across the Early Morning sky, you see, an airplane, streak ago cross the sky here that is what that line is and also nothing but just again, lots and lots of star light, the moon is, diminished at the moment, been a low face so we will not see too much out there in the next couple of mornings still nice and clear which also bode well for friday nights ryan meteor shower. We have temperatures in the mid 40s at best for the most part, it is definitely a cool start to the morning, some folks in the inland suburbs are finding temperatures in the 30s right now, it is a cool start to the morning but we are expect to go warm up readily here. Kind of like yesterday again dress in layers we will be just fine but High Pressure over arching theme here and that means a good portion of the u. S. Is nice and quiet. Temperatures steadily climbing , they are not going to spike per se but see maybe a degree or two here and there getting packed on daytime high with every passing day and that means more sun then anything too with High Pressure overhead. It does stay dry and we will see temperatures warm but also remaining from five to 10 degrees above what is average. It really is nice. Eventually the pattern does, change, as early as monday night, and showers move in for monday night football, and i dont think it is a major impact on the game, however. It looks like tuesday and wednesday will be days that we will dust off umbrella but up until that point especially through sunday the weather looks just gorgeous, enjoy it. Just by that map we have just had, thanks very much, yesterday was gorgeous to day is having a nice dry roadways again, boulevard south bun heating up, as you head toward schuylkill but war looking good, once you jump on the schuylkill westbound and city avenue this is what you will be sitting in. Boulevard, looks okay, jump on the schuylkill you are basically looking a little bit like a parking lot but thinks a snails crawl. Westbound, you are very slow and then just beyond those streets you can barely see those taillights going in to center city looking slow as well as we get close tore center city. Ninetyfive south at cottman we have been watching this for the pennsylvania her or so, beautiful sky line here. Take a look the at traffic.
