Lab-Grown Meat Is Getting Closer to Supermarket Shelves Bloomberg 12/10/2020 Agnieszka de Sousa (Bloomberg) -- Slaughter-free meat is finally starting to make the jump from the lab to the factory line. As Singapore becomes the first country to allow the sale of cultured meat, more startups around the world are preparing to test production of lab-grown meats like beef and chicken in factories. While there’s a long way to go, it’s a crucial step in getting cell-based products ready for supermarket shelves. Mosa Meat BV, started by cultured meat pioneer Mark Post, is among at least eight companies building or operating pilot sites. The Dutch company, which made the world’s first cultivated beef burger, has been raising funds for those efforts and plans to upgrade small-scale output in the first half of next year, before moving to a full industrial site as early as the end of 2022.
