Lafayette Student Heading to Scripps National Spelling Bee Some of Acadiana's best spellers competed last night in the Kiwanis Regional Spelling Bee with hopes of making it to the Scripps National Spelling Bee in Orlando later this year. Congratulations are in order to Jonah Stout who attends John Paul the Great Academy for winning the regional bee. Jonah correctly spelled the word "precursor" to claim the top prize. He will now head to the Scripps National Spelling Bee in Orlando on July 8. The spelling bee is broken up into two bees: one for students in grades 3-5 and another for those in grades 6-8.
