LAKELAND — On Monday, the Lakeland City Commission will rule on a controversial Morgan Creek Preserve expansion already tied up in a lawsuit at the county level. Commissioners will hold a public hearing concerning a portion of the expansion of the Morgan Creek Preserve near Medulla, Hamilton and Pipkin roads. If approved, owner English Creek LLC would be able to develop 56 single-family detached homes on about 35 acres. Combined with homes already approved by Polk County, there will be 85 homes on approximately 45 acres. The hearing is set to attract attention from residents who already opposed the development at the county level. Billy Friend, a resident who has expressed reservations about the expansion, said he plans to speak at the hearing alongside a "pretty good group."
