Letters to the Editor for Tuesday, April 13 Letter writers Must be better way I just reviewed the Bonita Springs Fire Control District 2020 Annual Report and was surprised to learn that only 826 Responses were made in support of Fire and Hazardous Conditions in 2020, while 4465 responses to Medical Emergencies and 2050 Requests for Assistance were made. During the Covid-19 pandemic, I can’t imagine a more pressing need for City residents to have been given prompt emergency assistance in vaccinations as soon as the vaccines became available. Our Fire Control District has about 90+ personnel some of whom could be reallocated to serving the community to prevent the spread of this disease, especially since many of the firemen are trained in EMT/CPR procedures. Vaccinations could be administered at the firehouses. If the Covid-19 virus doesn’t qualify as a medical emergency, I don’t know what does. Far too many senior citizens, those most vulnerable to the virus, tried in vain to register for vaccine appointments with Publix, the State and Lee and Collier Counties only to be frustrated by not getting through.
