The LGBTQ-focused network Here TV won a Daytime Emmy for its documentary series Girls' Voices Now, which features young women and girls from marginalized communities telling their own stories. An episode of the series, focusing on 16-year-old Bangladeshi-American Mehrin, won Outstanding Short Form Children's Program at the Daytime Emmys, handed out earlier this month in Los Angeles. Titled "Girls' Voices Now: Under the Scarf," the episode features Mehrin describing how she came to the U.S. at age 11 and how she adapted to life in L.A., facing discrimination for her skin color and hijab, but also allowed the freedom to learn and achieve, something denied to her in Bangladesh.
