Library book sanitizer makes safety easier Courtesy Photo CARDINGTON — Since the pandemic began, Cardington-Lincoln Public Library has been working especially hard at two things: keeping staff and patrons safe and continuing to provide full access to our resources and services. This isn’t always easy. One of the challenges has been the quarantine requirements for books and DVDs; every time an item is returned, it is placed in a quarantined area for at least three full days before being made available to patrons again. A recent delivery, however, made it possible to be both safe and efficient. The box that was delivered contained something called a Library Book Sanitizer Machine. This machine uses UV-C light and high air pressure to sanitize up to 6 books and DVD cases at a time, and in only 30 seconds. Tests confirm that the sanitizer kills 99 percent of pathogenic bacteria, flu viruses, and most importantly, Coronaviruses including COVID-19.
