Logging equipment fell through the ice in Lake Hattie Township Saturday afternoon at a Line 3 worksite, trapping the operator inside the submerged machine, according to a Hubbard County Sheriff’s Office news release.
Enbridge spokesperson Juli Kellner confirmed the incident, which occurred at 1:56 p.m. Feb. 6.
The sheriff’s release said, as deputies and medical personnel responded to the rural site, additional information came into dispatch advising them that the cab had filled with water and that other Line 3 replacement workers were attempting to rescue the victim. The workers were successful and tended to Roy Davis of Barnwell, SC, 45, as deputies arrived.
