GHAZIABAD: In the past one week, power demand in Ghaziabad has almost doubled — from 700 MW daily to 1,500 MW. However, local faults in the form of frequent tripping are affecting the supply in localised pockets. Officials, however, say the system is “overburdened” and it has resulted in many transformers going kaput and affecting supply. Officer’s City-2 apartment building in Raj Nagar Extension, for instance, suffered a power outage for 18 hours between Tuesday and Wednesday because of a snag in underground wiring due to overload. In Kaushambi too, two towers — Shivalik and Trishul — suffered outages as the transformer was burnt and the power department diverted the supply from another transformer instead of replacing the faulty one.
