The family-owned zoo became his forever home.
Space, 92, died on Monday, the zoo announced in a Facebook post that prompted an outpouring of sympathy and reminiscences. The cause of death was not disclosed.
Space was a lifelong resident of Wantage and, according to his obituary, was working at the 100-acre zoo until the end. His son, Assemblyman Parker Space, R-24th District, is among the family members carrying on the tradition at the zoo.
