MACAO, April 29 (Xinhua) -- The Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) is gearing up for welcoming more tourists from the mainland during the upcoming May Day holiday on May 1-5, related government departments said here Thursday. Macao's border ports with the mainland and the police force have made thorough preparations for the holiday, during which the daily number of visitor arrivals to Macao is expected to be 20 percent higher than the daily highest record since the COVID-19 outbreak, said Ng Kam Wa, commissioner of Macao's Public Security Police Force. The number of mainland tourists visiting Macao has increased obviously recently as epidemic situations on both sides continued to stabilize, Ng said, adding that Macao recorded 36,500 visitor arrivals on April 18, the highest daily number since the epidemic struck.
