Share Updated: 4:22 PM EDT Jul 1, 2021 One man has been arrested and another is sought by police after an alleged assault in downtown Burlington last week, according to investigators. In a report delivered Thursday, members of the Burlington Police Department said two people were injured after being beaten just before 3:30 a.m. on June 21. Both people — a male and a female whose identities were withheld — were allegedly hit by another man using his arm cast as a weapon near the intersection of Main Street and South Winooski. Eyewitnesses told police the man was also "curb-stomped" while unconscious. He underwent reconstructive facial surgery and had his jaw wired shut the following day in an effort to treat his injuries, according to the police report. Investigators have accused 31-year-old George Mnyonge, of Burlington, of assaulting both people with a cast. He was arrested on Friday and charged with both simple and aggravated assault. Mnyonge is being held at Northwest Correctional Facility in Swanton for lack of $1,500 bail and was scheduled to be arraigned Monday, according to police. Police are still searching a second person they said "curb-stomped" a man during the alleged incident, wanted on charges of attempted second-degree murder. According to the police report, investigators said the suspect is a Black man between 5-feet, 6 inches and 5-feet, 8 inches tall. He was last seen walking toward Champlain Farms on the night of the alleged assault, according to police. Anyone with additional information on the incident or the alleged second suspect is being asked to call the Burlington Police Department at 802-658-2704.
