Man charged after walking through 9km Remutaka rail tunnel, forcing train cancellation

A 30-year-old man is facing charges after walked through the 9km Remutaka railway tunnel on Tuesday evening.
The man was arrested as he exited the Upper Hutt side of the tunnel shortly after 6.30pm.
Police said the man was due to appear in Hutt Valley District court May 4 on charges of trespass on railway infrastructure, resisting police and disorderly behaviour.
The 6.18pm train from Upper Hutt to Masterton was turned back to Upper Hutt and replaced by a bus service due to the man's presence on the tracks.
