A local man with a prior record is accused in Edgecombe County court records of roughly 10½ months ago being part of a plot to kill a man. Michael Darcus Jr., 22, is charged in an indictment with conspiracy to commit first-degree murder, conspiracy to commit assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury and conspiracy to discharge a firearm into an occupied vehicle causing serious bodily injury. The indictment, which a grand jury in Edgecombe County handed down on Nov. 16, is in connection with the shooting of Devonte Johnson. Rocky Mount police in a news release had said Johnson, 27, was provided aid by officers after they had responded at 1:32 p.m. on Feb. 10 to a shooting with an injury near the intersection of Goldleaf Street and Myrtle Avenue in the Holly Street area.
