Updated December 11, 2020 6:28 p.m. EST By Gilbert Baez, WRAL Fayetteville reporter Sanford, N.C. — A man shot by a Harnett County deputy when he ran from a traffic stop was out of the hospital and in jail Thursday night. Bernard Junior Carnegie faces charges of assault with a deadly weapon on a government official, assault by pointing a gun, carrying a concealed weapon, possession of a firearm by a felon, and possession of marijuana. Carnegie's mother, Beverly Hunter, said her son surrendered to authorities after Lee County deputies came to her home outside Sanford to look for him. "He still has fractured ribs. His lung is still trying to heal. He still has open wound where the bullet went in his back, she said.
