LAS CRUCES – Las Cruces Mayor Ken Miyagishima is calling on local financial institutions, such as banks, credit unions and Community Development Financial Institutions, to open up “appropriate lines of credit” to local restaurants who participate in the city’s pandemic meal voucher program. Miyagishima said he believes extending even small lines of credit could assist restaurants who are either currently participating in the program or who were deterred from applying because they lack the financial stability to wait a week or more for reimbursement, but who could apply when the city launches a third round. The restaurant voucher program — a relief measure for senior citizens and low-income residents in Las Cruces — began last summer. Ten restaurants were selected through an application process, and $10 vouchers were distributed to residents who qualified.
