Qatargas has tapped McDermott International to carry out FEED work for Qatar Petroleum's North Field South (NFS) project, the company specializing in EPCI services said in a Jan. 6 news release. The scope of the contract, which will be executed from McDermott's Doha office, includes replicating five offshore wellhead platforms, the company said. Work was scheduled to start immediately. The North Field is about 80 km offshore the Ras Laffan Industrial City. The project, the second phase of field’s expansion, is expected to help increase Qatar’s LNG production capacity to 126 mtpa by 2027 with the construction of two trains, according to a Reuters report. The first phase, North Field East, involves construction of four trains.
