EAST COUNTY — A migrant was found dead late last month on a rugged hillside a few miles north of the border, local and federal authorities confirmed this week. A volunteer search-and-rescue organization alerted authorities to the 33-year-old man’s death around 2:45 p.m. June 30, according to statements from the U.S. Border Patrol and Medical Examiner’s Office. Personnel from the Sheriff’s Department were sent in search of the body; an ASTREA helicopter crew helped locate it, sheriff’s spokesperson Lt. Amber Baggs said in a statement. According to the Medical Examiner’s Office, the body was on a mountain just north of Otay Mountain Truck Trail, a few miles north of the border and southwest of Dulzura.
