Meet-Up With Young Professionals: “Logging and Poverty: Youth as a Key Factor for Change“. About the event Congo Basin Talks With Young Professionals is hosting an in-person meeting in the Congolese capital city of Kinshasa, where young professionals, opinion leaders, and community members will discuss with decision-makers, civil society, and journalists on the opportunities for youth in the forestry sector, specifically, around the issue of ending poverty around logging areas in the surrounding communities. The topic of the meeting stems from "Forêt: en RDC, le bois d’œuvre crée la pauvreté" (English: "Forest: In DRC, Timber Creates Poverty"), an article from Environews DRC. The story highlights the abuses from illegal logging and the impact they have on forest communities, who despite making investments in their environment are unable to benefit from it. This meeting will allow youth to discuss their involvement and the logging sector in the DRC so they can contribute to end its abuses.
