Mental health resources are available for local military members Unmute BINGHAMTON (WBNG) -- Military deaths are recorded every quarter through the Department of Defense. Through a partnership with the Office of the Armed Forces Medical Examiner System and the Suicide Prevent Program Offices of the Military Services, the Department can report the numbers. The Department of Defense recorded 76 suicide deaths in the Active Component, 13 in the Reserve and 26 in the National Guard during the first quarter of 2021. In the same quarter of 2020, there were 90 suicide deaths in the Active Component, 20 in the Reserve and 26 in the National Guard. Within the Active Component for the quarter in 2021, however, there's a rise of eight deaths when it comes to the Army Active Component.
