The roadmap indicates that the feature could arrive as soon as June 2021, but dates on the roadmap are always subject to change. Currently, Together Mode only lets you select pre-set backgrounds from Microsoft. Creating custom Teams backgrounds for individuals within calls is an incredibly popular feature in Teams, so it's likely that custom backgrounds for Together Mode will be popular as well.
