Mike Dunphy named first athletic director at the new Willow Spring High School Tags: Updated February 19, 2021 4:48 p.m. EST By Nick Stevens, HighSchoolOT managing editor Willow Spring, N.C. — Mike Dunphy will be the first athletic director at Willow Spring High School when it opens its doors to students this fall. The longtime Cary High School athletic director will open the school and serve as a science teacher. Willow Spring is the newest high school in Wake County, located in the southeastern part of the county. John Williams, the interim principal at Willow Spring, called Dunphy "a champion." Dunphy was named the 2017 N.C. Soccer Coaches Association Athletic Director of the Year, and was named the HighSchoolOT Honors Athletic Director of the Year in 2020. As a coach, he has led teams and athletes to championships in soccer, basketball, badminton, and track & field.
