A COMMUNITY rail partnership has celebrated a special anniversary. It is two years since a train was named The Bentham Line – A Dementia-Friendly Railway, in honour of the group’s work. And the milestone has been marked by the Leeds-Morecambe Community Rail Partnership. The organisation was set-up in 2006 with the aim of improving services and developing community links along the so-called Bentham Line, which runs between Leeds and the west-coast resort – via the Airedale route. A project team has worked with communities to make the line dementia-friendly – and its innovative efforts have won wide acclaim and provided a model to other railways.
