Attorney General Carl Bethel. Despite campaigning on transparency and accountability, the Minnis government is seeking to block reporters from attending or asking questions at two major press conferences planned for this week. Ironically, one of those press conferences is to discuss the Freedom of Information Act. On Friday, the media was advised that Attorney General Carl Bethel will hold a press conference on Sunday, 2 May 2021 at 3:00 p.m. at the Office of the Attorney General to announce the appointment of the Information Commissioner and Deputy Information Commissioner, and the official opening of the Freedom of Information Office. However, minutes later, reporters were informed “BIS will be the only one allowed to cover and will disseminate the information from the AG’s Office.”
