MONITOR TWP, MI — Despite preliminary discussions, Monitor Township officials are no longer considering creating their own police department.
The township of about 10,500 residents currently receives its police services through an annual contract with the Bay County Sheriff’s Office, which provides two road patrol deputies. On March 17, Township Supervisor Terry Spencer sent a letter to members of the Monitor Township Board of Trustees broaching the idea of forming a new police agency.
The letter was also shared with residents, who voiced their opinions on the matter to officials and on social media.
