Toll booths, though a necessary part of how things work, are generally not the most convenient for travellers. It would appear that the Indian government is now looking to address that problem and completely eliminate toll booths from Indian roads. But how would that be achieved? Well, with the implementation of a GPS-based toll collection system. To that end, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has already finalised a global positioning system-based toll collection system that will serve to enable smooth movement of vehicles across the country. This news was announced by Nitin Gadkari, Union Minister of Road Transport & Highways and MSMEs, while speaking at the ASSOCHAM Foundation Week Programme.
