A new hour of msnbcs Special Coverage of the israelhamas war. Im stephanie ruhle, live from Msnbc Headquarters in new york city. We begin this hour with breaking news. We have just learned that the u. S. Has confirmed the death of another american killed in israel. That brings a death toll to 30 was citizens of 13 americans remain unaccounted for. That is all according to the State Department. This comes as we learned of a Key Development in the ongng effort to get americans the door trapped in gaza out of the war zone. The Palestinian Embassy says that starting tomorrow at 9 am local time, Foreignnaonals Inside Gaza can cross the rafah border into. Egypt at the same time, humanitarian aid will be moved into the region. This comes as the world rates for unanticipated Granite Bay Shunt of israel. They saw on your screen is a live shot from the gaza strip where it is now one a amodei morning. New video provided by the israeli army shows israeli troops gathering near the border. They have one goal. To destroy hamas leadership. Today in cairo, egypt, its new blinken reiterated the rights of israel to protect its citizens. Israel has a right it dday has the obligation to defend itself against these attacks from hamas. And to try to do what it can to make sure that this never happens again. As i said in tel aviv, as President Biden said, the way that israel does this matters. It needs to do it in a way that affirms the shared values that we have, for human life and human dignity. Taking every possible precaution to avoid harming civilians. In israel today, the grief continues to run a deep. Families are trying to make sense of the unimaginable. As they warn their loved ones of a funerals for the victims of the massacre last week. More than 1400 people have been killed in israel, and in gaza more than 2600 have been killed. Gazas Ministry Of Health says that most of those killed there are women and children. Gaza is now also in the middle of a dire humanitarian crisis. Basics like food and water are hard to find, well medical supplies are running out. When it comes to access to water, the u. S. And israel reached a agreement to restore water in southern gaza. That is where israel is urging people in the northern part of gaza to go, as the military prepares for their Ground Invasion. Joining me now to discuss from the israel gaza border, nbc news correspondent, my dear friend alison barber. Allison, i have been watching you for days. Give us an update. What do we know about this effort to get to play americans that are inside of gaza out safely . So this is a very big development. The announcement that they border would be opening tomorrow morning at 9 am local time, that is about two a. M. And new york. It is the most Concrete Plan we have heard so far, to have the rafah crossing open. At the same time it is open to foreign nationals, or supposed to be open to foreign nationals, to cross out of gaza. It is also one humanitarian aid is expected to come into gaza. Remember just yesterday there was a period of time where Palestinian Americans the State Department had told him to head towards the Border Crossing. Because they thought there was going to be open. It did not happen. We then heard from our producer in egypt that the palestinian envoy to the rafah border so that each of did not plan to open the Border Crossing to foreign nationals, Palestinian Americans. Any palestinian with another citizenship. Unless humanitarian aid was allowed inside. Now it seems like that is the agreement that they have made. It will, open they say, tomorrow at nine a. M. This is the only possible way for people to get out of gaza violent. That is north into israeli territory. This is the only layout crossing that goes into a territory other than israeli territory. It has been close since tuesday. And egyptian official says that was because an israeli airstrike had struck near the crossing, and had damage that Border Crossing. The State Department has been telling the estimated 5 to 600 Palestinian Americans inside of gaza right now, for days, to just get as close to the border there as they can. Because they say if this opens it will likely be sure to notice it likely will not be open for a very long time. Now we think that is going to open tomorrow morning. Again, not a local time. That is 2 am in new york. And has been a key concern and a key point of talks when the u. S. Secretary of state, Anthony Blinken, as travel through the region trying to negotiate something so people can get out. The reality that we have to remember is that there are roughly 2 million palestinians inside of gaza with absolutely no way out. Even if they wanted to leave. Because they are under a full blockade. Even before this war started, stephanie, it was not easy to cross in or out of gaza. Only people who had specific permission with the rafah crossing from the egyptian side as well as the palestinian side, could cross. So you still have a lot of civilians who are likely going to be stuck in the middle of the cross fire, when we see Israeli Forces move in and launch this expected round offensive. Stephanie. Alison, please stay safe. We are so grateful for your reporting. My, Colleague Alison Barber from the israel gaza border. Now lets move to Northern Israel. That is where we find nbc news Foreign Correspondent josh lederman. Josh, i understand aerate sirens went off earlier today in tel aviv. What is it like there in Northern Israel . Youve been there for, what five days . Yeah, thats right. In fact, Senate Majority leader Chuck Schumer was part of the congressional delegation that was in tel aviv when they apparently had to flee to shelters because of those Air Raid Sirens that you mentioned, that went off in tel aviv today, stephanie. The situation has been extremely tense. Really in all parts of israel. Weve been talking to israelis who had to evacuate from Northern Israel, the area near the lebanese border. Some of them said look, we might leave here but its not like there is some place in israel where we feel safe right now. You have the entire area were ellisons ak at, coming under rocket fire from hamas. Now in Northern Israel you have the constant threat of missiles coming from hezbollah. Those missiles are far more advanced and have a far longer range which is why there is such extreme fears right now about a second front opening in this war. With hezbollah today. Israels military declared a closed border zone all along the border with lebanon. To a half miles. They dont want the public in, there they say does not. Say they are shutting down a gps. I woke up this morning, and i could not figure out how to get from point a to point b on google maps. Because the military had simply shut that down in an active combat zone. That came as israels military used fighter jets to attack sites in lebanon. Thats raising real concerns about whether or not israel could face itself, both on the ground and with a Ground Incursion also. Having to fight it hezbollah in lebanon, later. On in the middle of all of, this israelis for more than a week have been fleeing to shelters feeling like there and safe in the Grocery Store a break because outside its a dangerous situation that is taking a toll on the population here as well. Thank you for joining us live in tel aviv. President biden talk to Prime Minister netanyahu next weekend, discussing u. S. Military support to israel. I want to bring in my colleague courtney kube, she covers National Security and the pentagon. Between the early stages of israels coronation of gaza . I suspect there is going to be two stages of u. S. Military support of israel the first one is going to be an elaborate show and support. One Aircraft Carrier in the Carrier Strike group will go along with. It theyre already in the eastern edge. With the what the Military Calls combat air patrols. Theyre all staying over international waters. Nothing going into israel yet. I second carriers scheduled to go into that region. That area. Its now also going to be parked right nearby with uss gerald r ford. Along with its associated ships. It is going to be a large number of u. S. Military ships there. Also additional fighter and Attack Aircraft moving into the region. I suspect the next phase, the, if and when this grand invasion actually kicks off is actually going to be a lot of support that we dont see, staff. And thats going to include more intelligence support. Providing the israelis with more help in their fight. In their fight against hamas and gaza. We may also see one thing that i suspect will happen. What were just hearing from joss. The real concern about a second front opening in this war. And that is from lebanon. If that does really become a concern, that there might be on the hezbollah forces massing along the border or anything like that, i could to the u. S. Military flying show of presents or show of force flights with this additional aircraft. At this point, nothing like that has been ordered or is really on the table. Its just something theyll keep in their back pockets, should that start to escalate, staff. Can you dig a little deeper with us about the specifics around supported strategy . Youve got specific reporting of people privately warning israel to show some level of restraint. Thats not what many people are expecting. As we wait this Ground Invasion, people are expecting gossip to be decimated. This conversation when it looks like behind the scenes. Yes, exactly. Especially when you consider what weve been hearing is israeli officials in the last eight days are talking about restraint, theyre talking about some sort of incursion or force that weve never seen before. This is what former u. S. Perspective is all about one word, and that is deterrence. Its theyre very concerned about the spreading in the region. There i was head of israels borders, outside of gaza supporters, becoming a larger regional conflict and the eyes always towards iran here. Thats been moving all this in, talking very openly about this its really a show of force in the show of presents. What we have learned over the last several days as weve seen Secretary Of StateAnthony Blinken with this remarkable Shuttle Diplomacy all over the region. Weve seen secretary of defense lloyd austin going to israel on friday. To meet with his counterpart. This is really all about urging them to show restraint, and that does not encourage actors in the other, reaches groups who might support hamas, to try to join this fight. They are very concerned about. That one of the messages that we have been told that they are conveyed to their israeli officials and counterparts, is look hamas and itself to be among the worst Terror Groups in the world, we continue to hear conspiracies to i. S. I. S. And other atrocities weve seen a devices in the last decades. Theyre saying dont be like hamas. And show some respect for the law, stephanie. Nbcs courtney cooney, thanks so much for joining, us i appreciate it. Today new, signs Ground Invasion is imminent. To courtneys last, point it is go be massive. The Israeli Military is preparing to invade thegaza strip soon. Tens of thousands of soldiers e capturing Gaza Citiesand destroying the Enclaves Court leadership. That is according to three senior Israeli Military officers who outlined on classified details about their plan to the times. Joining us to discuss, retired Lieutenant General stepped 20. How do you expect this to unfold on the ground . Yes, good to be with you, stephanie. What you see in the last couple days, israelis have been conducting attacks in order to Prep Battlefields for the Ground Attack. The ammunition depot. Hamas leadership, attacking the struggles that they know of. All that is in preparation for the Ground Attack. The Ground Attack summits within days now. That will happen, they will conduct this through the border. And they will violently exploit after the breach is broken. Once they get into gaza, you are talking about a full on fights. They will have to fight house to house, build her to build her, street to street. Through the tall tunnel networks. It will not be a Home Field Advantage for the israelis. Obviously hamas is their turf. They will have the advantage. The key for the israelis is to protect human lives, number one. But also to ensure that theyre able to attack in a three 60 manner here. Youre talking about going through buildings and alleyways and so forth. So they are going to have to ensure that they dont get swallowed up into gaza itself. That they methodically go through their drills to ensure that they see there is a long fight, casualties on both sides on hamas and israel there will be Human Casualties is even possible to destroy all of hamas, knowing that key leaders are not even in gaza . I will tell, you know i do not think so. As you know, it is hard to care of a head of ideology. You have hamas leadership, some in jordan, some in egypt. They are all over the arab world. So you can attack the root cause theyre in gaza but you cannot attack the head of the leadership unless you go to other places. Ill also tell you, its a good start there in gaza. At the end of the day with the israelis are trying to do is prevent the hamas from attacking out of gaza and israel. Thats what theyre missiles, and thats what the capability that they use in this recent fight is about. If they could get that done, thats a good start. General, thank you for joining us this. Evening i really appreciate. Retired general steph twitty, has the State Department confirmed the american death toll has officially risen to 30, Secretary Blinken gets ready to return to israel.
