While Kamala Harris focuses on issues like reproductive rights and affordable Childcare Donald Trump and his, Jd Vance go for broke on Conspiracy Theories and big, fat lies. Whether its immigrants eating household pets, the childless cat ladies ruining our country, we got a lot to cover. I want to bring in our nightcap, and its a great one. And one of the biggest headlines that we are still talking about, i cannot believe this, because he wont stop talking about it is what is happening in springfield, ohio. Donald trump talked about it again today. This ridiculous insistence that illegal immigrants are stealing, killing, and eating pets. Donald trump again is insisting its true. Its not. Why is he doing this . How is this helping him with undecided voters, which he actually needs. I Cant Answer that. I dont think its appealing to those people, i take its appealing to people who believe in Conspiracy Theories. Pick apart what you said. Illegal immigrants. These are haitian immigrants with temporary protected status. These are not illegal immigrants hes talking about. In springfield Jd Vance just today tweeting they are spreading commendable diseases, the Department Of Health has said that is untrue. And the only thing that is happening frankly is Bomb Threats to local elementary schools. And a heartbroken father who has had to tell people to stop using his son as a prop. Thats whats happening. Thats the real stuff thats happening. Just think about the committees realworld consequences, the Bomb Threats, the schools closing, do they care . Whats the. Of no. What is the point of this . The point is to drill down on the very base of what they are trying to do is say that because there is a high level of immigration to this country that is bad, and because Kamala Harris is in favor of open borders, which shes not a no democrat im aware of in elected office is actually in favor of open borders. They argue though that anything that an immigrant does is the fault of all immigrants at this point. So they are trying to make this very basic argument about aggression, but because the people they are trying to reach and can indicate with our in this rightwing the bubble they are so in, like, a little mass amongst themselves were they can communicate with anyone else outside that bubble anymore. They keep leaning into these weird, racist memes in hopes of getting to the core issue, probably turning off undecided voters who are like im sure i dont want people crossing the border illegally but what are you talking about . Is there a chance though that republicans were Donald Trump is getting his wish . People will dismiss The Cat stealing and eating, but he does now have people focused on immigration, and there are people going what . The town is overrun . This is a problem. And the national news is now focused on an immigration problem, and we would be talking about it this week had he not pushed these lies. I think he picked the wrong state. I would be focused on arizona or one of these other states thats on the border. So i think this is something we have become immune to, the politics of fear and cruelty, and that is something we have heard for nine years now. All it does is fans of us, right . When he says at an event with 67 Million watching 34 Million of them are really jacked up and excited about it, then he doubles down. Its really great narrative for him, and this is something he has done and only worked in 2016. In 2016 he ran on fear mongering, but he also won, because he was somebody new, different, people didnt know what they were getting. By the 2018 midterms when he was pushing the Caravan Lie Day in and day out up until the midterms those caravans never showed up, and he never mentioned it again pizza people have seen this tired game and not enough of them will vote for him to win. Hes on his heels right now. Mentioned 2018. He has the biggest upset in the history of u. S. Politics. But then he became the biggest loser when you think of 2018, 2020, and 2022. Its over, thats done. Its probably 80 Million people who feel that way, we are talking maybe 150,000 people who have to see it who were articulating it, and thats the game for the next 53 days. You follow all that happens on the internet. We see the memes going crazy over this Conspiracy Theory and crushing him. What does it take to get them to stop . There are a lot of people who believe it want to stop the Conspiracy Theories from going mainstream. Well definitely not the memes, because the memes are everywhere right now. You cannot open to talk without someone doing a remix of the eating the cad eating the dog remix. I think it will take these platforms having stronger fact checking, more moderation good luck with that Elon Musk shared a video of someone saying that their father did eat cats. So we are in a place for Social Media is still so unregulated, it is still the wild west, and i think these Conspiracy Theories will run wild, and they become a joke so they are funny, but then they are repeated. Millions of times, just that soundbite of the eating The Cats, eating the dogs, has been sent to On Tiktok tens of millions of times. Its been used in videos over 77,000 times. So we will keep hearing these things repeated even in joke form, and they wont stop until somebody steps in and say we will not allow even a joke of a Conspiracy Theory or dare i say regulators. Why is this race still so tight . Kamala harris has endorsements from aoc and cheney. [ laughter ] that is the definition of a broad coalition. And Donald Trump has even rejected the support of Nikki Haley Treaty cannot even see the center. I think you still have enough people in enough states who are waiting to see what happens, and who are trying to make the choice between okay, do i go with Kamala Harris or Donald Trump even though i dont agree with him as a person . I think thats the real question that just enough people are asking themselves. She knows this, and her policies are more centrist than Joe Bidens. Yet, what are Donald Trumps policies . Mass deportation and tariffs that will only hurt the economy . You are getting this question, you know what . Like this. Regulation. Lots of people in the world, so what is it can expect with lower taxes, deregulation, i think theres a good chance back with the lower taxes not anybody would get their taxes lowered. Corporations will. The wealthiest americans. So who do you want . You want to expand the Child Tax Credit to mark you want to help people start businesses or buy home . What she needs to do is get away from bidenomics fend off china but not hurt the center of america. Trump talks like all that tariffs will go into the treasury. Its very inflationary. If you look at the existing policies we have right now we are keeping china at bay. Chinas economy is so bad right now, and they have the potential to export deflation. Weve been so focused on inflation, and a lot of people are hurting right now. The cumulative effects of inflation, but Crude Oil has come in really hard. Interest rates are coming down, so theres a lot of things that might be a tailwind for the u. S. Consumer. I think thats how she has to focus on what is her plan to build up those things coming around right here in the last thing i will say, the Stock Market is not the economy. The Stock Market is at alltime highs right now. If this was trump he would be saying youre welcome, america. Heres S P 500 thats at all time highs, but they arent going to get into that game. They will focus on the things that will help everyday americans. s back look what he said on healthcare, right . He has dunked on Obama Care for nine straight years, and his aunt was i have conned steps. And she has to, but at the same time it does feel unfair. For young people what is it . Whats keeping them not voting yet . Well whats not keeping them voting yet is being really frustrated with the biden administration feeling like Kamala Harris is an extension of the biden administration, and truthfully that has a lot to do with Israel And Gaza. And some young people obviously not wanting to vote for trump, because he is trump. So they are like i dont have a party in this, i dont have a dog in this fight. My vote doesnt matter, so they think Kamala Harris is an extension of biden, and that trump is just going to ruin america. But if they sit out they dont have a voice. Help me with this, right . The person who says listen, i dont like her policies, but i dont like his personality, what are his policies that they like . If they are unhappy about Israel And Gaza do they know what hes going to do . Thats the problem though thats the thing. A lot of people say its Israel And Gaza, and maybe things get better under Kamala Harris, or gaza is wiped off the face of the earth under trump. And people are trained to explain neither situation is perfect for what these people want, but one is sure better than the other. Will he relieve your Student Debt problems . Tell me what policies of his you are down with. We are seeing such a vibes based election. People are especially, young people, are looking at who it is most represents me, who is my avatar. Who is it where they are closest to me, therefore they are who i like. With trump you see in people supporting him like he gets to say whatever he wants. He gets to to people, he gets to , he is in theory rich. I all measures he is rich. I spent the week talking to young republicans, who after the Taylor Swift endorsement we will talk about later, but they were telling me you know how much she cares about social issues, lgbtq people but us common people, food, we cant afford housing, and these are young people who i dont know if theyve had to deal with these issues, the full brunt of these issues, but they see him as a Home Base guy, and they see her as like wanting to work on these social issues and they feel like we dont have the ability to work on social issues. Can i counter that to you . Do you know who really talks about social issues and culture issues and lgbtq issues the most . Republicans. Right . I dont actually see i dont even remember the last time i heard Kamala Harris talk about anything like that, but i hear Jd Vance talk about it all the time. Young males are unreliable, just look at the history of Voting Block if you will. They like to actually get involved in these Culture Wars a little bit, but i dont know how if you are a young person watching two nights of the dnc when they are in milwaukee, and when she spoke on Thursday Night i think, and not really create some sort of separation between Joe Biden and what a lot of folks think about as the last three and half years, and the stewardship, shes done a great job of tacking back toward the center, now she has to articulate voice is not really progressive. Its interesting biden had to talk to a more progressive stance, now she has that opportunity i just shes obviously articulate. Now she has to tell us her plan on immigration. Whats your plan for the economy . She has to do that without diminishing enthusiasm that nomination picked up in the base. Like talking about her immigration plan, how do you do that in a way that gives to the people who are worried about immigration and the state of things and want to fix a broken system versus she did that Tuesday Night at the debate, he talked about eating cats, and she legit ate his lunch. Okay, if there is not a second debate, who benefits . If theres not a second debate, who benefits Donald Trump, frankly. If, look at how he performed. Its interesting if you watched the debate from the beginning, she was nervous at the beginning. In the beginning she was. People forget that first question. She was asked the are you better off, and she struggled in the beginning. She sounded nervous, she ignored, docked and weaved. It was like a microcosm about her campaign. She is learning so fast and adjusting on the fly, and you could see it in real time at the debate. And that was really valuable i think for voters. So if theres not a second debate you want to perform that strongly again, especially against him. I went to the dnc, ive been watching her sense her first speech. This was actually my favorite format for her, because she seemed loose. She didnt seem overbearing, i hate using that word its such a gendered word it is, but shes where the world isnt fair, and she nailed it in terms of the politics of tv. She didnt give the cameras one single shot of her frazzled, angry, fired up, i mean if she had one look at would have been the cover of the new York Post the next day, crazy kamala or some coded words to be like it wouldnt say angry Black Lady, it would say angry Black Lady in code. She knew that and wouldnt give it to them. There are folks who should say she should do it again, she got under his skin, and theres a whole new cycle of him reacting to that making him look unhinged. But lets say he becomes a lot more deliberate. Maybe he prepares a lot more. What im saying is he wants to stay out of jail. I just think Theres Risk to it. Im an adviser, but i would say go on Joe Rogan. That would be a massive flex. Kamala. Get out of your comfort zone. I would go on pod save america. Timid miller. Why . Then you get good soundbites, then the potential for going viral On Tiktok. The cooper anymore and debate. This is a really good point, kind of this Joe Rogan bro space. He has been successful in peeling off young white males between 1830. And you hear from a lot of these guys and right wing media saying why wont you talk to us . She should talk to us. Should she sit down for those interviews . Hold on. You might say theres no way shes getting their vote dont waste your time but shes so good at this she will eat their lunch. It should make it harder for them to argue she is this far left persona, right . Last thing dan said she has tact back to the middle, and show if she sat down for those interviews, it could certainly shut down the noise. Thats just me, the rest of it though is more about as someone who is concerned personally, im just worried about her turning off people who are jazzed up to vote for her right now. Who also would not watch the Joe Rogan segment, but shes giving him credit, shes making him more of a real force like i dont like that, that turns me off, i dont like who she is associating with to try and win moderate votes. That makes me feel bad. I think people would be aware though, she has to cater to some degree to this demographic. Knowing that shes on the Joe Rogan podcast i dont think too many members are going to say she has gone too far center or is giving airtime to someone who touts crazy conspiracies shes not going out to dinner with them, shes doing their show. They have scores of people who listen or watch, but i take your point that she is legitimizing people who maybe spread a lot of bad stuff. Im not saying joe necessarily. I dont know enough to say. Well leave that to the viewers to decide, but i think by going on the Joe Rogan podcast, by giving a swath to the internet you reach out to people who maybe have never heard you before, and if she does go on for example, Joe Rogan, she should eat their lunch. She should be a communicator, who can be a bridgebuilder, i think thats what she would want for if she work to go on Joe Rogan i think that should be the intention, not eat his lunch and make him look small, because that will be an avatar for young white men saying she just wants to dunk on us. Would that also be a way to shut down conspiracies or personas people have assigned to her . She has shown she has the ability to stand up in a way thats like you are the weird one, the ridiculous one. Ill say one thing you are no spring chicken, sir. [ laughter ] ive been Doing Cnbc for 15 years. And here is my point. Ill play along. Heres what i want to say is this. 100 of the people who come up to me in real life and say i love your show, fast money, i think you do a great job. On the internet it is 100 80 of the people who say youre stupid, youre fat. Whatever. Or you have a bad take. Whatever it is. Thats where we live in this digital world. I think she has the opportunity to. Hes been online saying trump looks crazy or something, i think there is a Voting Block that she could actually do a good job with. Even Elon Musk, right, the next day was like she outperformed. That debate started, and dave was like i dont know. And when she actually delivers the goods people are kind of forced to shut it down or give credit where credit is due. Which so many people were forced to do on tuesday. The most important Data Point i saw this week for the election had nothing to do with the debate. I remember this article in the guardian, that was basically arguing local republican parties are complaining they do not have the Ground Game they need. Not like this Ground Game looks like a midterm and game, not a president ial Ground Game. Ahead of the rnc, Lara Trump made it clear we are keeping the money for ourselves. Weve got legal fees to cover. Maybe they helps pay for her releasing her new record. If you go to Trumps Party you are in his house. We are reaching the point where Media Appearances may not make a difference, but knocking on doors might. And i think that opened the door so i think they can build and use that ground they are building to capitalize on the advantage of people seeing Kamala Harris, dunk on Donald Trump, and knocking on doors and saying hey, if you like that, wait until we see what happens if you vote for her this november. I agree the republican Ground Game is terrible. They are focused on election integrity, which trump was trying to focus on in the debate, but it all gets lost in the mush that is his brain at this point. Hes trying to focus, but keeps pushing lies, thats why it turns to mush. He tries to riveting two things he likes to talk about, like the election was stolen which is false, these lies about immigrants which are false. But when Kamala Harris did was reserve after time in each of the questions. Normally during debates im like why wont they answer the question . This time seeing her spend maybe half the time dealing with what was asked her, and then using the rest of the time debating Donald Trump and goading him, im not sure that will work again, but if you paint the hole on the Wall Trump will run into it like wile e. But, i think her capitalizing on the moment and pushing the story about the debate forward, its, i think it is kind of like the white Woman Version of What Henson did at Bet Looking Up Project 2025. As soon as she said that at the Bet Awards it was like the lights went up i spoke to Carol King last night, which was super awesome. She has been involved in politics since the 80s, and not just performing, knocking on peoples doors and saying do you know what John Kerry stands for . We are not expecting Taylor Swift to be knocking on doors, but i think she might, i think shes the kind of person who would people would die and Cant Vote after seeing her standing there. Shes never done something as big as that. Shes always done instagram posts. And she notably says do your own research, how to vote expect you saw the voter registration, that could move the needle. One of the most important things we think about the last few days is trumps advisers now all too well what a cruel summer he had. I just want to say the maga media and trump have not been able to shake it off. He is tapped out on pretending to have sympathy for the people he wants to vote for him. If you go to the rallies he doesnt have a new teen, nor a new song. It is the same old routine. Celebrity opinions dont count . You must have a low opinion of yourself. But, beyond Taylor Swift do they count . When George Clooney wrote about President Biden that had impact. Its like actually really smart, because Taylor Swift fans go up to each other and compare and swap bracelets. It depends on what she does next. Frankly just getting people to go register to vote, thats not the be all end all. We know she has stayed on the periphery of politics. People were upset she had not endorsed kamala sooner , that, is it too late . Obviously its not too late, you can still register to vote, but you know, people are hoping that she will continue to perform, that she will talk about this when shes out and about, maybe she will knock on a door or two, but people want more outreach, and weve seen historically she does not do much more than instagram. Or even better, they will see that and go i should knock on doors, too. But the conversion of i love Taylor Swift, she loves Kamala Harris, does that get someone to vote that date . On everyone. I spent a lot of time talking to republican swifties this week. Interesting. Im dying to hear i love hearing Donald Trump saying this will be bad for her business. I guess he forgot she endorsed Joe Biden the last election and went on to have the highest Grossing Tour ever. So republican swifties are not surprised, they said shes always leaned left. She has spoken out against marcia blackbird, she has endorsed Joe Biden. Of them anticipated this would happen. And most of them said ironically, she is a billionaire, she cant relate to me but Donald Trump can well Donald Trump is going to you know, care about foreign issues. He will help me pay for my meals, he will help me afford housing, thats their mindset. Again we had this conversation, but they think she cares more about social issues than he cares about the economy and the issues at Home Pizza republicans i spoke to, and again, they are all swifties, they said i still love her music, i love her, but it wont change my vote. I want to let them know, if you want to burn your Taylor Swift virtue already paid for it , so that does not amount to anything. Everyone is staying put. Thats not what happened, and theyve been taking a ton of hate all week for it, but i hope everyone saw it and so what i saw which is these people asking important questions, and it wasnt just the fact checking, it was the fact they asked questions in such a way it was really clear that Donald Trump does not have plans. They asked stuff like do you want ukraine to win the war . Not going to answer that one. Donald trump was fact checked way more, because he repeated provable lie after Provable Lie Over and over. My mvp this week is whoever is booking Jd Vance on all these podcasts. Shout out to whoever is doing that. We will have him in front of a mic he keeps going and saying these outrageous things that people pick up on, like wait, what . And as long as hes out there feeling like hes comfortable and talking to an audience that is supportive not picking up this is called dj t. Its the Parent Company of truth social be my mvp are these brave souls who short it. It means you are making a bet against it going down. And if it goes up a lot you lose a lot of money. The day after the Debate Stock down 15 . Because people saw the debate and said this is worth zero. The value of owning that stock is he could be the next president , and im investing. I do not believe that for a New York minute. We are the regulators on this. I hope they are paying attention, to me, what an extraordinary thing. Call me next week when the window opens. Maybe thats why hes moving to these nfts. Once there is no buyer theres no worth. For everyone saying it used to be worth 6 Billion, now its worth one or two. The crazy thing is his stake is still worth 1,000,000,000 1 2 dollars. This company does nothing. Its an empty plot from that essentially he tweets on. She has been an advocate for lgbtq people. She has made all of her opening acts on these major shows, drag queens, shes been an credible advocate, and something i found really impressive and really hard, and something that will turn off fans is Hers Setting Boundaries for celebrities. She said effectively if you run up and grab me, if you call my dad thats not cool. It may not be popular or something people want to hear especially with people being so investigative, but its a conversation we need to have that celebrities are real people, that there are boundaries that they can set, and if you cross them they can get upset with you. They are not on 24 7. I know shes going to lose some support because of this no way to choose an icon.
