Is that no one has tried to kill Kamala Harris in the last couple of months and two people now have tried to kill Donald Trump in the last couple of months. I would say that is strong evidence that the left needs to tone down the rhetoric. Two Assassination Attempts, attempts in as many months. I think it is time to say to the democrats, to the media, to everybody that has been attacking this man and trying to censure this man going on 10 years, cut it out or you are going to get somebody killed. J. D. Vance wants people to believe it is the Lefts Rhetoric that motivated these attacks. Donald trump has taken it a step further directly blaming Kamala Harris and President Joe Biden for the attacks. In an interview with Fox News digital, trump said somewhat, they use highly inflammatory language. I can use it too. Far better than they can. But i dont. Now, so far there is no public evidence to support the claim that rhetoric from Harris Or Biden was in any way implicated in either of these attacks. In fact, trumps first assassin did not have a political motive. He was remembered in his community as a conservative and he explored opportunities to attack president biden. The latest alleged assassin does have a history of political an mist against trump. Does not mean he was a democrat. Social Media Profile says he was Disillusions Trump and then supported Nikki Haley and ramaswamy. Not a democrat or a republican for that matter. Now, there is still a lot that we dont know about these a parent attempts on Trumps Life and what might and might not have motivated the gunman. But trump and Vances Concern about inflammatory language is fairly disengenious. It has been a week since he claimed on the Debate Stage that haitian immigrants were eating the pets of local residents. Or cats and dogs. That lie has wreaked havoc. The Citys Mayor received death threats. More than 30 bomb threats. They were forced to cancel a celebration with safety concerns. Schools have been evacuated and State Police have been dispatched to protect school aged children. All of it because of something Donald Trump said. Sort of the literal definition of inflammatory rhetoric. Despite all of that, along with reported insistence that there is no truth to trumps claim, Trump And Vance wont give it up. This week j. D. Vance appeared to admit that he and trump created this story but still sticking to it. The american people totally ignored there stuff until Donald Trump and i started talking about cat memes. If i have to create story that is what i am going to do. You just said this is a story that you created . Yeah. So eating Dogs Thing is not true. We are creating, we are creating it comes from firsthand accounts from my constituents. We are creating a story. We are creating the american media focusing on it. I am going to try to unpack that a little bit. I think j. D. Advances trying to say he is fabricating a story about immigrants so that the media will focus on immigrants. Which sort of feels like the definition of a Bait And Switch or a Red Herring or a lie. Meanwhile, Kamala Harris sat Down Today for a interview with the National Association Of Black Journalists where she was asked about the situation in springfield and offered her wholesome response. You know that microphone in front of you . You need to understand it at a deep level how much your words have meaning. It means that you have been invested with trust, to be responsible in the way you use your words much less how you conduct yourself. And and when you have been and then seek to be the president of the united states of america. That is what it looks like when a politician considering the impact of their words. Then the man she is running against. We will root out the communists, and those that live like vermon. It is grave than the threat from within. We got a lot of work to do. Today we will take on the liars, losers, creeps, perverts, freaks that are devouring the future of this state like a swarm of locus. We fight, we fight like hell. But i sort of wonder if Trump And Vance are going to get away with this by saying the Assassination Attempts are happening publicly as far as we know, not only against us but therefore it is all of the democrats fault . Blaming, the way you deescalate political violence is not blaming the other side for political violence. Right. That is not how you deescalate. And, frankly, we can take this entire show and just run clips of the things that have been said by both Donald Trump and j. D. Vance that are incredibly with ideas of political violence. Yes. You know. It will be bloody. Fight like hell. Going back to 2016. Trump used to encourage people to hit people at his rallies. If that does not work. I am proud of Joe Bidden and Kamala Harris. They called Donald Trump. They said they were glad he was okay. I think they still have to continue to point out the differences between these two campaigns. It is incumbent upon us to make everyone realize that one is darkness and rounding up people and putting their political opponents in jail and the other is, you know what, we will try to help you and your family. We are going to try to make your life better. We will try to expose your opportunity. By the way, Isnt America a wonderful place . That is a contrast she tried to draw on stage in public discourse, in advertisements. I was struck, eugene, i dont know how you felt or how it was in the room but the tenure of the Vice President s response to your question and the way she almost seemed sad, genuinely, that this is what trump is doing to the country. Almost the kind of resignation that he is not going to change and sort of encouragement to just turn the page. How was it on stage and what was your sense of her mood . I think that is right. I have covered her the entire time she has been Vice President. I never seen her react to a question like that. A question or the questioner but it was the moment that we are living in. And, she has not spoken about springfield. We were thinking about the topics we wanted to work on and when i was writing the question really i wanted to hear what she had to say. A policy that she felt like the federal government could use to help communities and she took the opportunity to do something, i think, that people wanted to hear from her. That is kind of talk about this moment in history. Talk about what it is like as someone who, one is a current leader, and to continue to be a leader as we move forward and she did not even really say trumps name, right . It was clear what she was talking about. She, you know, was talking about the kids, she is obsessed with kids. She is talking about the concerns that she has about the way that this kind of rhetoric and these tropes as she said more than once, are dangerous for people, right . Because at The End of the day the Conspiracy Theories have no basis of fact, right . And you played the clip of senator j. D. Vance and him saying he created the story. Or he created it but he did pair it and Donald Trump did it on the Debate Stage. A lot of democrats who asked me, a lot of requests for questions as you can imagine with these opportunity comes up, and a lot of democrats were wondering why she did not say anything on the Debate Stage, right . So, i knew that was something that people even within her party were wondering how she felt about what was going on in springfield. And, it is going to continue. So, this is not going anywhere. She will have to continue to make these same points because, both in springfield and in general the racist Conspiracy Theories about people in this country are not going anywhere. Especially dark skinned democrats. I thought she did something that was important when she was asked about the rhetoric. She did not necessarily focus on trump. She talked about the little children in springfield who are going into school for picture day. She talked about them being dressed up to get their photos taken and that they could not do it because Donald Trump and j. D. Vance was spreading lies. That is one of the things about this conversation it does not exist in the abstract. It is about real lives, not just the powerful people in the crosshairs but the normal, everyday people without secret Service Protection that did not ask for this that are caught up in what trump created. I wonder if you think that is, as setting aside the Retor Rhetorical Look at it, he is costing all of us. I think it is helpful. I think when Donald Trump made the famous line they are eating the dogs, which will go down in president ial debate history. I think it is important to point out, alex, this is the first time they have gone after legal immigrants. These people in springfield are there legally. They are not illegal in any way. They have status. They have been told by the government of our country they are there, they can work, they can raise their families. The fact that they are going after them, they really crossed a border here. You know. And said, now, we are going to try to demonize people who have legal status in this country. And, the republican mayor is saying dont come here. This is total b. S. The republican governor is saying that this is garbage. The employers of these haitian legal immigrants have said they are wonderful employees, people of springfield spoken out saying leave us alone. We are fine. All of that. And now they are going to continue to try to marginalize these people and in the long run impact these childrens lives in a way they will never, ever forget as long as they are alive. It is such it is such a searing point, claire. You mentioned the way j. D. Vance, given a chance to admit he is wrong, the eating of dogs and cats is not happening in springfield doubled down in that interview on cnn and said basically it is a means to an end. If people are caught up in it, so it. This is what it takes to get people to understand the stakes, i guess, of the Immigration Crisis as the right wing would have them what do you think about his answer . If your constituents come to you as a senator and said this happened and it did not happen it is important for you to say we looked into it, it did not happen. If your kids, someones children saying mom this thing happened and that it did not then is your duty as the adult in the room saying actually, there is no demon under your bed, right . That is an important aspect of being a leader. I think that is the point that our colleagues are making when they are asking him these questions. As leaders you are not just someones, you know, Crazy Uncle on Lineup Retweeting cat memes. The words matter. The kind of impact that happened to every day people, to who are just living in this community and the community that is dealing with resource issues, can probably use federal assistance when it ins to the translators on the ground. When you see leaders engage in racist Conspiracy Theories instead of talking about the policy, it tells you a lot about if a republican party is right now.
