Reporter im now in an underground bunker, a hospital that has been set up three levels below the main hospital in the northern city. This was a parking lot. You can tell it looks like a parking lot. But it was built nearly 20 years ago, also to serve as a hospital in reserve, a Hospital Underground just for scenarios like this one so that patients could be treated, care can be given during a War Situation when parts of israel come under attack. And for the first time since this facility was built, it is actually being used. Yesterday israel started move ing all of the patients of the hospital down into these wards here. Frankly, its fair to ask at this point whether that war has already begun. This is, by far, the deadliest set of ids really strikes in lebanon since The End of the last war back in 2006. In just the last few minutes, the leb needs health the ministry updated the death toll. They are saying 274 people have now been killed in israeli strikes across lebanon. We dont know at this point how many of those are hezbollah fighters. Sraels strikes are aimed at the militant group, but we do know, according to the health the ministry, that 21 of those killed are children. 39 of them are women. The Israeli Military says it conducted so far today more than 800 strikes. These are not just limited to the south near the israeli border. They are also in the valley in the east. So far israel refrained from striking the capital, but we are seeing very widespread israeli Military Activity. At this point, it is all airstrikes and art till the ri. We have not seen israeli Ground Forces crossing the border into southern lebanon. But the question is, is that something that we are heading for given the intensity of this Military Activity right now. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu earlier today saying israel is absolutely determined to change the Security Dynamic where you have had Tens Of Thousands of israeli civilians displaced from their homes by 11 months of hezbollah fire. He says hes determined to create the conditions for those families, to go back to their houses. We should say there are also Tens Of Thousands of lebanese displaced from their homes on the other side of the border. Today many, many thousands more are clogging the highways of of lebanon trying to flee north, getting away from the fighting. Israels military Issuing Largescale warnings to civilians telling them to get out of villages where hezbollah converted homes into missile sites. It is warning people to save their own lives, to get out of harms way, but its clear that some civilians have already been killed in todays attacks. An Israeli Military official told mar when i asked what would it take to the call off theeds attacks, he says there are three main goals. One to create the conditions for those civilians to safely return to their homes. Two, to push hezbollah fighters away from the israeli border, and three, to degrade what is now decades worth of hezbollah military buildup in southern lebanon. We should say hezbollah is Firing Bakt back with rockets and drones into northern israel, parts of the Air Space above northern israel are closed at this it point. Hezbollah is not retaliating at the scale that you might expect. And one possibility here is that israel has succeeded in destroying enough of these Hezbollah Rocket sites to say enough killing. Something that Governor Cooper said about this Mark Robinson report and allegations is they were shocking but not necessarily surprising. Theres a sense of some of this may have already been baked into the race. Hes had a history of making really inflammatory comments and a history of splitting tickets. We have seen democratic governors be elected there while Donald Trump has already been elected. So these allegations could shift the race and the campaign believe it is can. They put out a memo saying they believe this could help them with suburban voters, black voters and the state has a large population of students. This is something that could help them turn out, especially this close to election day. So they are certainly hoping to capitalize it. Good morning, jose. This report is entitled crime in the nation. It decreased 3 last year, korgs the fbi. Murder and manslaughter came down an estimated 11. 6 . Thats the biggest drop in the last 20 years. Aggravated assault down 2. 8 . Heres whats also important to know about this. Theres been a lot of criticism of fbi crime data. This covered 94 of the population. While its true not all crimes are reported, all murders are counted. This is the second year in a row the fbi has documented a decline in violent crime. It shows after a Big Spike during the pandemic, violent crime is back down to around 2019 levels. Which was historic lows when you compare to the 1990s. And this contradicts what Donald Trump have been saying. They have been saying that violent crime is increasing dramatically. Its not what the numbers show. I was in detroit recently and spent time with the detroit police. That is historically a dangerous city. They have made incredible progress there. Murder is at levels they havent seen since 1966. The reason this is happening is many fold. Police departments are doing innovative things. They are putting cameras at gas stations. But its also systemic.
