Tonight, a Monster Storm about to make landfall. This hour, Hurricane Helene slams into floridas Big Bend as a category four. Plus, new York City mayor Eric Adams is defiant as he faces multiple federal Corruption Charges including Bribery And Wire fraud. We will get into it with the former manhattan prosecutor. And then, how Wall Street is responding to buys president harriss big economic addresses the 11th Hour gets underway on this thursday night. At evening. Once again, i am stephanie ruhle. Good to be back in new York City where tonight we are tracking Breaking News in the southeast is the incredibly powerful Hurricane Helene is heading the florida coast. Im going to bring in our own Bill Karins with the latest. Whats going on down there . A horrific storm. The Storm Surge is in areas that people have never seen the water on the West Coast of florida. The Big Bend is now getting 20 foot Storm Surge and the storm itself is now moving inland with destructive winds. This is the shoreline right here and wants half of the eye crosses the coast we will get the official landfall from the national Hurricane Center so what is historic about this is that this big Bend Region here of florida and our recorded history of hurricanes which goes back to the mid1800s, weve never had a category four or five make landfAll In this area. That has never happened before. That is why we are talking about Storm Surge values that are the highest ever recorded in this portion of florida. This destructive eyewall is where the intense winds are. It goes from tallahassee. Perry, florida is right in the middle of it and in the thick of the most intense wins. This is the northeast quadrant, almost the North Quadrant now. The northeast is headed here in between Perry And Mayo and you see those bright purple colors. Thats where we could get the guest of 130 to 140 mph. That will tear the tops off of houses. Trees will be down everywhere. Everyone in this box has been getting alerts on their devices telling them to seek shelter, almost like a tornado is coming through and they will be in that situation another two to three hours. The Water Levels are rising rapidly. Apalachicola, the wind is blowing water out to the golf but up along the coast the water is trapped and rising quickly. Cedar key has broken its record for the highest Water Levels theyve ever seen. Down in areas of tampa, water continues to rise. Now, we are at 6. 5 feet in clearwater beach. What these numbers mean is that if you are on the edge of the water with your toes, this is how much higher than the water should be. We are 6 feet now all through the bay areas here along the coast. We are seeing water going into businesses, into homes, and in coastal areas we have Wave Action on top of that, too. These are the latest wind gust. We just hit 76 and perry. Were going to disengage what will likely break here and still gusting 50 to 60 around it but that is where the eye is, in the center of it. As far as the Hurricane Center goes, this is the new update we just got in. Landfall will be officially at 140mileperhour winds, strong category four and the storm is flying. 20 mph is extremely fast for the speed that the storm is moving. As we go throughout the night, the Storm Races up through georgia. By 8 00 tomorrow morning, it is over atlanta or maybe just east of atlanta still was 65mile perhour winds. The we are focusing now on where the most extreme damage will be, all throughout the night people are going to be losing power throughout the state of georgia then finally by a noon or so tomorrow it will begin to weaken enough as it adds to tennessee and southern portions of kentucky. We have 60 to 70 mph gusts in the mountains of the southern appellations from this storm. This is a devastating, historic multibilliondollar disaster taking place right now. Thank you. Later in the hour we will go live to perry, florida for the storm is expected to make landfall within the next hour. Now, with the election just 40 days away, tomorrow, Vice President Kamala Harris will visit the southern border to talk about her bipartisan border security plan. Donald trump is attacked harris nearly every day on immigration, trying to make it the centerpiece of the election. Tonight, trump spoke to reporters ahead of Harris Visit calling her weak and incompetent on immigration policy. Meanwhile, both candidates are meeting with World Leaders during this years u. N. General assembly. Reporter tonight, Vice President harris standing Side Byside with ukraines President Zelenskyy. My support for the people of ukraine is unwavering. Reporter accusing former President Trump of wanting ukraine to surrender. There are some in my country who would instead force ukraine to give up large parts of its sovereign territory. They are not proposals for peace. Instead, they are proposals for surrender. Reporter later today, former President Trump surrendered. It is not a surrender. What my strategy is to save lives, i will meet with President Zelenskyy and we will see what happens, but i believe i can work that out. Reporter saying he can still work with iran, despite his campaign saying u. S. Intel briefed him on iranian assassination threats. Would you try to make a deal with iran of some kind if you were reelected . Sure. I would do that. I believe in getting it doesnt i have a great memory but it is a memory that wants to serve the people with that, lets get smarter with the help of our Leadoff Panel tonight. John allen is here, the tosha correctly and hayes brown, columnist and editor. What do you make a Vp Harris going on offense when it comes to immigration . I think her campaign is made a decision that it is an issue theyre going to have to address. She is getting hammered on it by Donald Trump. It is one of the top issues alongside the economy that voters say they care about, and particularly, the group of voters that may be making a choice between the candidates. There is some risk in that. She is hanging a lantern on her problem, as her friend Chris Matthews would say, saying heres the issue. I know im not doing as well on it and im not going to go address it now so you know, some risk in it but also a lot of risk and letting trump continue to hammer her. He says some things that are outlandish. Today one of the things he said is, you know, that basically she is the worst Border Enforcer in the history of the world, and i think that there are plenty of examples in World History of borders being far more porous than the u. S. Border with mexico. In the history of the world, planet, universe most just ever, the baddest there ever was could be, and then some. Natasha, it is a bold move on Vp Harriss part. But, is that a risk because there are a lot of difficult questions shes going to have to answer. Right. I think what she is doing is continuing a strategy that democrats have really begun months ago, actually at the beginning of the year which is excepting immigration is a huge liability for them, and we saw that with biden coming to this agreement at bipartisan legislation she is surely going to bring up tomorrow and surely going to bring up the trump pretty much that he blew it up and did not let it happen for political purposes. So, i think because of all of the different dynamics in our country this year, including migrants flooding into blue cities, it really shifted peoples opinions on immigration , and democrats were really hurting in that area. They are seeing that and i would expect her to very much come out tomorrow and be really tough on immigration and the border. I mean, whether it is believable, whether it is too little too late, as trump is trying to frame it now, is going to be up to the voters but there is no surprise shes going to be talking about arizona quite a bit. Hayes, there are all sorts of people in this country in red states and blue states, blue cities like ours that are unhappy about illegal immigration, but trump going All In, right . Does that say that almost half the country, assuming this raises neck and neck, his only Policy Solution is mass deportation, and people are down with that . I think people hear mass deportation and if you like despite the fact its what he has been talking about for so long, it has not really sunk in for people what that means. I feel like when they hear mass deportation they assume that there is a specific number of people who should not be here, who are going to be kicked out. They have not wrap their heads around the sheer Size And Scope of what the gop with Stephen Miller at the head of it, Trump Adviser at the White House on immigration, what they would do if they got the sent chance. Millions of people will be at risk of being deported. The economy will be destabilized. How is it that they dont actually think that trump is going to go as big as he says he is, because he talks a big game, but they like, dare i say it, the direction he is heading in. They like the tough talk. Theyre taking it on and they think oh no, hes not really going to do that. I mean, they can think that all they want but they are saying that is what theyre going to do, and in this case you really do want to believe that if they are not going to succeed they at least are going to try and that in itself will wreak havoc on this country. You know what else is wreaking havoc on this country . This hurricane. Hurricane helene is about to officially make landfAll In florida. It is extremely dangerous. This thing is a category four. I want to bring in my colleague, jesse kirsch, from perry, florida. What can you tell us . We are in the eyewall of helene right now. We are seconds away, if not experiencing landfall right now. I can tell you we have had intermittent moments of powerful dust. We are getting some right now again. I want to point out i dont know if you can even see it off in the distance but there are cars out here. I can tell you first responders of been saying that 45mileper Hour winds, anyone who is out here should not be out on the road. The winds are really picking up right now. We have some debris flying. We are going back inside. Stay with us, stephanie. There is some debris that is flying now. We are getting back inside. The eye is coming to us any moment now. All right, jesse. You get back inside, be safe. Stephanie, i dont know if you can still hear me. I cant see you but i can hear you, jesse. We just locked the door. Okay. We are good. We are inside now. We had to get that door locked. That is what we are dealing with. That is incredibly powerful. Okay, we are good. I smell some gas outside. Okay, we are okay. Our team is good. We are good. Again, there are cars out there. They should not be out there. Hold on, those cars out there, are people in those cars . Yeah. They were moving and i am seeing the vehicle backing up right now. There are people driving on the roads and they had asked for mandatory evacuations here in Taylor County. The sheriff and told me earlier he thought 10,000 of the 20,000 people here had not heeded those warnings including potentially around 200 people who live in coastal lowlying areas for the Storm Surge could be reaching 20 feet. I dont know if you can hear the wind howling, but you can hear it howling through the windows, through the glass. We have staff prepared in an internal room because when we are dealing with this kind of wind it is effectively like having a Tornado Overhead for over an hour. When you have that kind of Wind Force over a prolonged period of time you me out of breath. This is not easy to be walking through. If you have one like that it can weaken structures and going back to the coastal areas, about 200 people, the sheriff estimates may not have evacuated from coastal areas where the Storm Surge could be getting up to 20 feet. That is unfathomable and i can tell you that officials here told people bluntly with their warnings about evacuations. They ask people who are not going to evacuate from Taylor County that they should be writing their name, date of birth and other information about themselves on the body in permanent marker so they can be identified after the storm. That is what we are dealing with here and again, im still seeing vehicles out there on the road. Something seems to have a Flickering Light so im hoping that might be a first responder of some kind but there are definitely people who have chosen, it seems, to stay in these communities, which we often talk about in the storms in the headlines we have the days after can often be quite grim. We are waiting for landfall. It mightve, through. This is now the third hurricane i have covered in a matter of weeks. No question this is the most powerful. The other thing to note, this area has been hit now with three hurricanes in a matter of about 13 months and this one is demonstrably stronger and that is one of the things im picking up from talking to people out here is they have seen storms before. This is a different kind of storm and not something to be playing around with in terms of deciding whether or not to evacuate. Hopefully many people heeded those warnings. Did you speak to People Today who said we are just going to stay put, we dont think its going to be so bad . We were here yesterday, here again today and anecdotally, someone we met who was working at a restaurant where we were able to get food before it was shut down, i asked him if he was leaving town. He said he was planning to stay and write it out and i said you should really consider leaving and he told me he was staying because his grandma was going to stay and he was going to be with her. We got her on the phone and try to convey as much as a cut that this is a different kind of storm and they told us they were changing their plans and going to leave and i hope more people had those kinds of decisions throughout the day. By the way, aaron from our Climate Team says no landfall yet so we are still waiting for official word on that but it is close to the coastline if it is not there yet. To answer your question, there are people who i think were planning to stay here, multiple people who were planning to stay here. At the Gas Station across the street from where we were, a person told our team they were going to stay open and continue to be there. The light eventually went off over there but this happens. Whenever we come to storms there are people who dont plan to evacuate and then there are people who learned the lessons from previous storms. We met someone at a sandbagging location. Stained through Hurricane Debbie and that was a Borderline Category two, but a much weaker storm in terms of wind strength, and that scared that man enough that he decided he was leaving town this time and never going to take chances again. Hopefully, or people had experiences like that. All right, jesse. I dont know the name of the person you met in the restaurant with his grandmother. I am assuming you do so please say a prayer for both of them tonight. Stay safe. We are going to check in with you later in the hour. Thank you for being down there. Lets head back to my team up here. John allen, Vp Harris met with Vladimir Zelenskyy today. Donald trump says he is meeting with him tomorrow. Donald trump is not even said if he wants ukraine to win. How is this meeting going to go down . Is a great question, stephanie. I think zelenskyy is going to be Begging Trump that if trump becomes president again that trunk continues to support the ukrainian efforts to repel russia but it does not look like trump has that in mind at all. He talks about wanting a quick piece as Vice President harris pointed out today. That strategy is largely contingent upon handing over to russia most of ukrainian territory, so you could not have a bigger distance between two candidates meeting with the same person back to back. You have Vice President harris, who wants to continue what the united states has been doing in the President Biden, continue to help ukraine fend off russia, and then you have President Trump, who never exactly says he wants russia to win, but to your point, does not say he wants ukraine to win , and has a Vice President ial running mate, jd vance, who has consistently questioned the value of the united states continued to back ukraine. There is a real contrast here. Im not sure how many voters will make the decision based on that but certainly a contrast of values in the contrast and worldview. Donald trump is said that europe should be kicking in more money because they are physically closer to russia than the united states. The united states Foreign Policy for basically since World War ii, has been to bolster europe so that other countries in europe are not a threat to the rest of europe and the united states, so huge contrast between these two candidates. Before we got a break i want to take a moment and acknowledge that with 40 days out from the election, what else Candidate Trump is focused on. Today, melania trump, who we have barely seen on the campaign trail, made an appearance on Fox News because she is selling a new book. When asked about Kamala Harris and the state of the country, here is what she said. Will, how i see it as the record speaks for itself. The country is suffering. People are not able to buy usual necessities for the families. Not four hours after talking about that americans can barely afford necessities, her husband, candidate Donald Trump, announced his new line of watches, some of them the cost 100,000. On monday, he launched a silver Commemorative Coin for 100 Bucks that has a Teeny Bit of silver in it and those are just the latest in his line of merchandise over the last two months. Bibles, trading cards, Coffee Table books, sneakers. His publicly traded Media Company and his newly formed crypto exchange. Meanwhile we also learned from
