Southern border for the first time in three years. We do have a broken immigration system, and it needs to be fixed. Ukraines President Zelenskyy made the trip to trump our this morning. We have a great relationship and i also have a very good relationship, as you know, with president biden, and i think if we win we are going to get it resolved very quickly. Zelenskyy knows that if trump is elected the chances of american support go down dramatically. Ive been proud to stand with ukraine. I will continue to stand with ukraine and i will work to ensure ukraine prevails. We sat down for 25 minutes and we talked about one single topic the economy. Donald trump has a history of taking care of very rich people and then not really paying much attention to middle class families. Kamala harris is a onewoman economic wrecking ball. Hes just not serious about how he sings about some of these issues. Something really special. Youre going to love it, my new trump watches. We are doing quite a number with watches. Its getting very expensive to be a supporter of Donald Trump. Its trump time. Good evening once again. I am stephanie Ruhle And Welcome to the nightcap. We are now just 49 days away from the election and the democratic nominee is leaning into the issue of immigration. Vice president Kamala Harris stopped at the Southern Border during a trip to battleground arizona. She called for more investments in securing the border and reminded voters that it was her opponent who killed the bipartisan bill that wouldve done just that. Meanwhile, former president Donald John Trump was focusing on ukraine, of all things, and hes not promising to work out a deal to end the war. He met with President Zelenskyy at Trump Tower, even as questions were growing about his support for the country. Earlier this week we heard both candidates weigh in with their plans on how theyre going to boost the economy. Keep in mind, while all of that is happening, Mailin Voting is already underway in 26 states. Lets bring in our nightcap. You are in luck. This is a fantastic one. Msnbcs Alex Witt easier. Shes the host of Alex Witt reports every weekend. Tom rogers joins us, msnbc and Cnbc Minot Editor at large for newsweek. Christina greer easier, associate political Science Officer at Fordham University and Joanna Goal is the daily Chief Content Officer and cohost of their new podcast with Joanne And Samantha b. Im not going to go to ladies first because tom, youre the only boy here. Very intimidated. You should be. In your mind, where doyou think this race stands . I think its close as could be but i think kamala has the momentum. I think the polls directionally are moving in the right direction, both nationally and Swing States, but its all within the margin of error so im not sure how much the polls mean. I think she had a great week. I think that the release of the economic report, the speech on the economy, your interview, i think all gave her some greater gravitas on the economic front, which i think was an area she was suffering from. I think a big win that didnt get that much attention, nebraska got resolved. She couldve won the blue wall if she had ended up not being able to win nebraskas second district. It could have been all over if that was her path to victory, through pennsylvania, michigan and wisconsin. She still has to win the second district in nebraska. I hope people arent taking that for granted because without that, she could still end up in electoral College Tie and Inflation Numbers that came in today, the last three months annualized came in at 1. 7 below in terms of the fedS Primary metric, pce at under 2 , and thats a big deal. So tame the inflation without the Labor Market cracking. No signs of it. The economy seems to be cruising in toward Election Day in a way that could be helpful. With the Fed Cutting rates, its going to be cheaper to borrow. What do you think is the biggest issue . I think the biggest issue is Donald Trump selling his new watches. Im very excited to get one. For 100,000. Thats the most expensive one, the gold one. I had breakfast this morning with someone who spent a couple of hours with Donald Trump at Trump Tower yesterday and he said hes very confident that hes winning, and the friend that met him and talked to him at some length said you know, they went through the polls, the polls are pretty much split and Donald Trump feels very confident that hes actually going to pull through on this. And i think hes looking at his watch and hes thinking its time trump was back in the white house. But even if he wasnt confident, his whole brand is to protect confidence, isnt it . Of course and its turned out to be very successful. I still think we completely underestimate the fact that he played a boss on television, and of course he in real life but as we have trump steaks, trump water, trump champagne, trump university. None of those work but on television, in the way the ads, pharmaceutical ads are full of people in a white coat who say im not a doctor but im playing one on television and people strangely find it authoritative. I think this is the most extraordinary point because i go through this day in and day out, especially when you think about trumps base voters, his core voters, originally Blue Collar Workers who trump connected with on an emotional level. But in terms of policy it was the biden administration that delivered, yet from has on to those voters and others and he continues to poll better than Kamala Harris does on issues related to the economy. We are rolling into a strong economy yet Donald Trump joanna just laid it out, bankruptcy times, his Boss Persona, and i agree it is a character on tv, place for him. Hes a charismatic character. Hes very charming. Even if you dont like what he says. To paraphrase lbj, if you can convince the poorest white man that is better than the , you can pick hiS Pockets all day long. For a certain segment of the population Donald Trump taps into this racist, xenophobic, antisemitic, all the things that people need to feel, hence the border conversation, that they are better than others. So thats worked for him. He wanted to work again. Im cautiously optimistic about this racing the sense that Democrats Win the popular vote, weve seen it time and time again. Its just will they win the electoral college vote. We know some people can never pull a lever for a woman. We are one of the last few democracies that hasnt had a woman in power. We know that very many people could never pull a lever for a woman of color. We know that white men do not vote for the democratic party candidate. Theyve only done so since we started collecting data aS Political scientists since 1952, theyve only done so twice, lbj and second Term Bill clinton. We cant just bank on this kind of female vote. They didnt come out for Barack Obama and they didnt him out for Hillary Clinton. So hopefully something with this amazing rollout that weve seen since july 20th, Tim Walz has been a fantastic addition, tapping into some of this joy sentiments, trying to reverse this Vitriolic Cesspool that Donald Trump has excavated these past few years but it works in the popular vote. Im hopeful that in wisconsin, in michigan, in pennsylvania, north carolina, virginia, arizona, nebraska, even florida, you name it, im hoping that it will turn that tied. Doesnt Tim Walz also cool this idea that isnt rooted in truth, that come maulet is just so woke, that democrats are so, so progressive. When shes flanked by Coach Walz its hard to make that. Let me ask to say something that im encouraged by. Im sure you are familiar with the Forbes Study that came out that suggested every time since 1984 that the S P 500 starts one way on August 1 and then at The End of october it is ahead of the incumbent party has won. And im encouraged because i was looking at the numbers. August 1st, you probably know this by heart because you are stephanie, but August 1st the S P 500 was at 5446. Today it close that 5738. Thats a huge swing. If it keeps going that way, you know all the polls aside, when you talk about the economy, that has been the most accurate predictor. The very interesting article in Politico Today about pennsylvania, which obviously a key state where biden pulled very strongly and obviously performed very strongly. Catholic, complicated in terms of abortion where obviously Kamala Harris does appear to bring much more West Coast its a much more you know they have much more problems, of course, but actually in some of the more rural areas, abortion is still very much a sticking point. In pennsylvania republicans have registered a lot more people this cycle then democrats have and it is an old state, and come maulet is not doing well among older voters, particularly old white men. Hopefully walz can help with that. But going to the issue of trump, the one thing we know is hes Got A ceiling. Even in the Swing States, hes Got A ceiling. Is a 47 something, 48 ceiling. So the only way he wins is if there is somebody on the ballot who takes his opponent down below 50 . And while we may have the first Woman President of the united states, we may also have the same Woman Spoiler who killed it for Hillary Clinton in 2016, and that is Jill Stein is on the ballot in all the Swing State and when you look at what an independent Thirdparty Candidate takes, its always 1 to 2 of the vote. Youve got Cornell West on wisconsin and north carolina. You cant dismiss in Swing States where the margin could only be 1 or 2 , that these candidates could drain 1 or 2 . Thats going to come right out of the mullahs hide and im extrema concerned that there is just not enough focus on if you vote for thirdparty youre voting for Donald Trump. Theyve got to get on that with a digital targeted campaign right away. We know its not going to be rfk jr. Because hes too busy taking selfies and sending them to journalists. That is a quite extraordinary story. You need to remember everyone goes to the polls for economic issues. Latinos dont go for integration. Black people dont go for civil rights and social justice berkowitz economic issues and what we have seen is that when abortion is on the ballot, Democrats Win, because thats an economic issue. So hopefully the democrats can start to chip away at not just women but also helping men understand that this is an economic issue. Back to joannas Boss Persona point. I didnt agree with Kamala Harris obviously about the economy and in the last couple days i said she needs to get out there and talk more about it. Just this morning Joe Scarborough said this isnt about policy, its about how people feel. But its not about an 85 page policy. Its so not about that. But it is about her getting out there as a boss and having people see that aS People who dont know in the last two weeks i keep meeting with different Wall Street guys who say, but what does she run . I say, what does he not run into the ground 2 exactly right. Its also about celebrity and Donald Trump has extraordinary celebrity. As it happens i think you are completely right when you said he has charisma. I think he has less charisma than he did. I think heS Pitch been much more impacted and he lost his sense of humor. Used to be very funny. You said charming. Now thats gone. Hes so much more angry. He was wittier. Four years ago, his nickname for everyone. Game changing. He brought character to politics in a way that we just havent seen before, because he understands celebrity culture. I do think the thing that we have all underplayed is the fact that he has literally been the victim of two attempted assassinations. Im sure thats had an impact. First of all im sure, 90 of people who have been shot at get posttraumatic stress disorder, usually a month, two months after it happens. You get through the initial shock of it and then you begin to traumatized but not so traumatized that he couldnt watch a crypto exchange, start selling silver coins and watches up to 1000. But we dont know whether or not actually when hes at home, hes sort of rocking back and forth, wondering if he actually wants to do this. The fact that he announced this week he wasnt going to be Playing Golf on his Golf Courses was also interesting. Actually thought that was because he didnt want to play as Andrew Sullivan has said, this choice iS Pretty easy this year. We have a mentally ill candidate, and those things may have added to his mental condition. We do have a mentally ill candidate versus a Sain Candidate and voters ought to make that choice accordingly. And there are a lot of issues on policy. There are a lot of things that we can talk about in terms of the different between the biden Administration And Trump administration. But his attitude, Outlook And Conduct do not suggest somebody who is healthy in a mental state. And we go back to this other Point Joanna just made, sort of the Celebrity Factor . Well watch the debate. You and i covered the debate. She has it. The one thing i took away at the debate she beat him. The first time i saw another politician beat him in the business of television. She performed and captivated All Of Us flawlessly. Could she have herself out there more, not just at rallies and events but and im not saying sitting down here just to get grilled but let people see her swagger because shes Got A. She absolutely has it and i think thats one of her major strengths. We talk about our candidates in terms of trump, lack of character. Sheets each character, as well. I love the fact that she was a bad Attorney General, right . A district attorney. She haS Prosecuted one of my favorite lines that she came out with at the beginning is i know who Donald Trump is, and shes got to show more of that and not be so consumed with the sitdown interviews. They are very proper, yours was great. We did need to get her on the economy. You did a great job of doing that but i think just getting her personality out there, showing that she is a boss, that she can handle anything. This has Got All the international leader saying right now what theyve seen from her. Weve heard it all echoed through the united nations, that she is somebody who can handle pretty much anything. Shes going to think it through carefully, intelligently, and shes going to come up with some sort of an answer or say lets work together on this. Shes so impressive that we. What do you think of her going to the border, now leaning into immigration . Because Donald Trump occupies the whole Immigration Lane and talks about it day in and day out. And much of what he says isnt true. 4 of his 5 children are children of immigrants but he never mentions that. He doesnt mean those kind of immigrants. Of course because also his idea of americanness is whiteness. So its difficult for, harris as the child of two immigrants to come out with these draconian we need to close the border. Thats not what needs to happen. We know that we are a nation of immigrants. We know that weve always had difficulties incorporating immigrants over time. No immigrant has come here and been welcomed with open arms. Its just never been the case. This is an issue that i think is a moderate issue where theres a lot of different colors of blue in the democratic party. So people like the idea. Many people like it in theory, but in practice when its the Kids School or my neighborhood, or what their jobs look like, and obviously with Donald Trump trying to create a Wedge Issue between africanamericans and immigrants, thats an old trope from 100 years when people are struggling with it in their town or city, it doesnt mean they are xenophobic or racist and democrats can start talking to those communities and saying, i get it, things are feeling economically heres the thing, all politics is local so you have to make sure that in lets just say a manhattan conversation, may not even look like a Long Island conversation. You have two. This is why the democrats i think slowly but surely are getting better surrogates to help articulate what does i dont like the phrase migrant basis. Its not a crisis. We have people who are coming. We need to ask ourselves what foreign policies are redoing that are causing so many people that need to come to the united states. Thats a separate conversation but i do think Tim Walz is a great articulator. Hes giving this Dad Uncle Grandpa vibe to help us to tackle some of these collocated issues, especially for white americans were like, im not racist but i do have some questions and concerns. We had a very good piece in the beast this week by Adrian Leonard about what he called the shy trump voter syndrome, which is where, to your point about the poles being so close, people just dont want to it it it. They know hes a bad guy. They know that they should vote for something thats about a more coherent society. But actually when it comes to it, they feel that on the economy and on immigration, hes there got. They just dont want to admit it. Shy Trump Voters. I think they dont show up in the polls. They dont tell their neighbors. There was a survey that came out this week that said 65 of people now dont feel safe talking about politics at work and i think this all plays into it. The 21st century Bradley Effect where its like, as he always said, im the silent majority. So we see a 2. 0 version of that. You cant forget he cut peoples taxes. He cut individuals taxes and that expires next year and there are scores of people going i hate politics, i dont know what any of this is but i got my taxes cuts. Thats what they are deciding on. I think immigration is over is an issue because i dont think undecided voters in the Swing States are the ones who are going to decide this on immigration. If youre voting on immigration youve already decided youre voting for Donald Trump. I dont really think that issue is up for grabs. I think itS Pocketbook and personality. TaxeS Play into that. Inflation plays into that. The state of the economy as it relates to whether its improving, Mortgage Rates going down, everything that come all at is saying about economic policy in terms of starting Small Businesses, housing opportunities. I think those are the issues and at The End of the day with undecided voters. Do you believe there are undecided voters or is it really just about Voter Turnout 2 i think there are a few undecided voters and to say that youre going after the undecided voters, i mean they are so few, its about turnout. Lets get the turnout. Thats what it is. I just want to add on to what you were saying. Dont you think the issue of abortion and i hate weve been freezing it that we. The issue of a woman being able to choose what she does with her body, i think that is something that is going to generate a lot of women to get out to the polls and i think sometimes democratS Pointed the wrong way because theyll say something about a womans right to have an abortion. Like just say a womans right to decide what she does with her body. Thats what it boils down to. Its also an economic issue, though. Youre adding someone else your family. You have said im not prepared. I must be able to make this choice economically whether or not i can do this. And economic issue to deal with it. The women that have to leave state after state to go and they cant afford to. She did something this week on abortion that really showed how serious she was because there is no way you can restore Roe V wade legislatively unless youre willing to get rid of the Filibuster Rule in the senate and she said she was open to that, and that showed a degree of commitment to this issue. It would be polarizing as , it would probably make sure there was deadlock in congress on every other issue, but if the democrats hold the senate and she really wants to follow through on this issue, she showed she was tough enough in her thought to do that. Christina said something that has me scratching my head, joanna, when you said there are many, many women in this country throughout history who are just not going to pull the lever for a woman. Earlier this week Donald Trump got out there and said women are worse off, theyre more depressed, they are poorer in the last four years. I will be the protector of women. What . Yes, i know. I wasnt like that. Do you think there are lots of women in this country, traditional women who are going, im not voting for a woman. I dont feel safe with a woman, yes, a man in office, even that guy is i cant believe im saying it. I cant even believe i said that. I think even his wife doesnt believe hes a protector which is why she moved cities and moved states. Baron is now at new York University and millenia has moved back, as far as we know, to Trump Tower. So she doesnt want anything to do with him. But again, he played this kind of big, successful man on television, and most people arent as engaged as everybody around this table. Theyre not living it and breathing it likely are. And i do think theres a lot of underside to voters. I meet people all the time who its like i just dont have enough information yet. Why are they really telling you the truth . They say that. I think he will say that. Every morning i tune into a broadcast that Mark Halperin runs and youd be amazed how many smart, articulate people are still saying they dont know who theyre going to vote for. You just said you talk to people on Wall Street and they are like i dont know. But i dont believe them. Those people who i talked to on Wall Street really are just looking for every possible reason to vote for Donald Trump. Theyre shy Trump Voters because they wont actually do it. They are saying they dont have enough information but because their daughter and their wife and their educated son are saying, are you kidding me, and that man that im talking to is going, i just know im not going to get a wealth tax. Its the mental gymnastics that we see people perform every single time theres a woman at the top of the ticket or a person of color at the top of the ticket. Its like picking up the Donald Trump talking points. I dont know her policies. Well, Donald Trump, what are your policies . Shes done nothing as vp. Im sorry, what is the role of vp . Can you list what Mike Pence has done or Dan Quayle or any other vp 2 i knew Dan Quayle was coming up. Nobody is going anywhere when we go back were going to have a look ahead. We are days away from the first Vice President ial debate. What we can expect from tim Walz And J. D. Vance will face off next week and the Vice President ial debate. The nightcap is back your to break down what to expect and more. I think its going to be interesting. The fact is j. D. Vance is an intelligent man go hes Got A gale law degree. Great eyeliner. That, too but i read something that tim ryan, who debated him twice in 2022, they were running against Each Other for senate and he said the fact is, the guy is smart and we know that he can articulate fox better than Donald Trump can. Donald trump goes and bladders and uses very elementary language and says the same thing over and over again, and then gets mixed up because hes going to be looking for sharks and electric batteries off the boat so i think its going to be an interesting debate. I think j. D. Vance is going to bring it. I think hes going to do a better job than we anticipate. I dont underestimate Tim Walz but tim is going to have to hold his feet to the fire. If im walz i start the debate by saying j. D. Vance and i are in complete agreement that trump utterly failed to deliver on his economic populism. I dont think we need to debate any further. You could be a good advisor. Thats not the only thing happening next week. Lets talk about the new York City mayor. Lets talk about Eric Adams. What are we in for . We are in for a long road. I dont see Eric Adams resigning anytime soon unless the feds sort of who is running new York City at thiS Point with the amount of people who are being investigated or taken down . To be fair, weve had a lot of open positions at the top. Commissioners are resigning like rats jumping off the titanic, however we cant estimate the number of thousands of dedicated new York City government employees who keep the city running so that is its always frustrating because the citizens of new york lose out when theres chaos at the top. We saw this in 1996. Theres always a lack of leadership when that happens. However, youve got dedicated employees who actually know how to run these agencies and we will keep the ship moving. It would be nice, though, to have a mayor who is completely focused. It would be nice how serious are these charges . I wouldnt want them, however, i dont know. This is where we debate on my podcast on faq, whether or not voting new yorkers, of which there are a very small percentage of the voting eligible population that bothers to turn out for our municipal elections, whether or not they are paying attention. This iS Paid to play, sadly, Corruption And Scandal like this has become very commonplace after having Donald Trump. Why would Eric Adams resigning . Hes the first mayor in new York State politics weve Got A long history of folks. It doesnt mean its okay. It absolutely doesnt, however this race, we keep talking about pocketbook issues. Did you possibly defraud taxpayers . Thats going to be a complicated narrative that the fdny and the Eastern District have to present to voters Eric Adams could say why would i resign if the Man Running for the presidency is already convicted . Is going to literally play the from card. Why wouldnt you . He already is. This is also the thing, we are running up against the clock. On November 5th if Donald Trump somehow wins this election, we do know that well have a turnover in the fdny and the Eastern District and this case very well could just go away. So Eric Adams is going to bide his time as long as he can. These are very serious allegations. We are having raids on top aides and deputy mayors. Its embarrassing for the city of new york. It is a position that we hoped we wouldnt be in. Its a position that many of us thought we would be in if we elected Eric Adams as mayor of new York City. Somebody else is also having a very, very difficult weekend next week i suspect its only getting more difficult. The Daily Beast has done a ton of reporting. Whats your take on the diddy situation . Where are we headed . Are you referring to his Soulmate Sam bankmanfried . Could you imagine talking about him as they are in the metropolitan detention center. Absolutely extraordinary to think of these two men in their. Thank you. We have done a lot of reporting on this, a lot of it disturbing. About three months ago we ran a report by two of our excellent reporters about what a bully he was at work and actually i spoke to one of the very senior executives who worked with him, who had been very successful in a very well known company and had been very nervous about going to work for him because shed heard stories. So one of her arrangements with the contract was that he was not allowed to call her between 11 00 at night and 5 00 in the morning, because thats when she was sleeping but thats when actually he gets going. He goes to bed at 5 00 in the morning, or at least the time he was running sean john, he was the inspiration for sean john, she was actually running it, he was not allowed to call her between 11 00 and 5 00 because she, like a normal person or a normal ceo, was asleep and he was out clubbing. And she said that he knew all sorts of stuff was going down but she didnt have this insight, that the bullying that was going on was terrible. In fact, we have another piece coming up which i think iS Posting now about someone who went to a party and very quickly realized she was being drugged and just passed out, went to the local private hospital and it was absolute clear that they were very familiar with this happening at his house and that this was not the first time this had happened. You know what really bugs me about this, is the fact you are saying so much, but the fact you are saying a lot of people talked about it, they knew it. So for taking a job this woman had to put the parameters in place to keep her safe. It sounds like the Harvey Weinstein Thing again. We talk about that, why is this happening . Why do we continue to allow this kind of thing to happen . Diddy should have the book thrown at him. Celebrities that give them cover, this was only a year ago that he launched his Couture Collection on the steps of the met gala and there he is within a winter. There are the pictures with leo dicaprio. There are the pictures with ashton kutcher. He talked about hiS Parties. Picture with Eric Adams. We got to go to commercial. Can we talk about this more during commercial . Talk about it during commercial and youre going to wish you were still here. Everybody is staying put. When we come back it is time for the mvps. Number one, stephanie ruhle, forgetting the interview of the week. You stole my idea. Number two, President Zelenskyy. All the Heads Of State were here in new york this week. He dominated. He showed what we need to do to continue to fight for democracy Around The World, as hopefully we have an election here supportive of our own pro democracy candidate, Kamala Harris, but he stood up to the world and made us remember that Theres Something far more important than many of the domestic issues we wrangle about. I continue to be intrigued by Malani A. I find her absolutely fascinating. Her book, my count down, is the countdown to her book being published on october 8th. Im trying to get hold of a copy without having to pay for it. You really think Theres Something extraordinary in there . It should be. Im rather hoping, apparently theres a large discussion in their about photos and im hoping that libraries in florida decide to ban it. My mvp of the week is mark cuban. He officially endorsed, harris and he didnt just say she has my vote and post a picture. Here is what i think is Celebrity Endorsement is different. He came out swinging. He went on right wing podcasts. He went on Fox News and he made the economic case for businesS People to support harris. But i actually thought the most interesting thing he said this week was on twitter where he talked about what the Mainstream Media really is and he said its the right. The biggest Tv News shows are on fox. The top 10 podcasts have a bunch of rightleaning shows. Sinclair broadcasting hodes more Tv Stations than Anyone And Salem is all rightleaning. So conservative media is Mainstream Media, so for all the criticism about Mainstream Media, mainstream video, look loosely. A whole lot of it is right wing. All right, gang. That is it for us. We are going to take a quick break. Alex, tom, christina, joanna, i absolutely love having you here. When we come back, im not letting you leave just yet. Can i ask you about tariffs . Because you just mentioned it. Its not just with one company. Donald trumps sort of Big Idea is this broadbased tariffs across the board. You and many others have said that would be not only disastrous but it would be a direct tax on the american consumer. It would be a Sales Tax on the american people that the independent economists have already measured this by the Sales Tax of doing a 20 tariff on all imports that he has described would be a 20 Sales Tax, in essence, on basic necessities for the average american worker, average american family, totaling almost 4000 a year. That is no small matter. Here in pittsburgh im talking to a group of folks who work here, who live here, and when they hear it might be 4000 more a year for them . Look, People Cant afford that. Tariffs arent unique to president trump. President biden has tariffs in place. Hes actually looking to potentially implement more. Where do you come out on a good tariff, a bad tariff . Part of it is you just dont throw around the idea of tariffs across the board. ThatS Part of the problem with Donald Trump. Frankly, and i say this in all sincerity, hes just not very serious about how he things about some of these issues. One must be serious and have a plan, a real plan thats not just about some Talking Point Ending in an explanation at a political rally, but actually putting the thought into what would be the return on investment and what would be the economic impact on everyday people. And when you look at my plans you will see what those benefits will be. 25,000 down Payment Assistance for 1st Time homebuyers. You know what that means . Then you are creating the ability of that working person to build intergenerational wealth, doing the work of a 6000 child tax credit, doing the work of a 50,000 Tax Deduction for firsttime Small Businesses, startups. Thats a real plan to its a real plan because right now its about paying attention to detail and being serious about it. Im serious about my enthusiasm and for Small Businesses, and my belief of what they will do aS Part of americas economic engine. So looking at the fact that right now the Tax Deduction is 5000, nobody in this year of our lord 2024 and start a Small Business with 5000. Very few can so expanding it to 50,000, Tax Deduction for startups, to generate the innovation in the ambition of the ideas that are present and among us, but need the fuel to be able to actually achieve the goal. HiS Plan is not serious when you lay it out like that but a seriouS Problem over the last few years has been inflation. Luckily its cooling but prices are still high. I agree with you. You said you want to take this on by going after those who engage in Price Gouging but as somebody who supports free markets, whose a capitalist, how do you go after Price Gouging without implementing Price Controls . Is once we get in this zone, people start to get worried and they say, i dont know what she stands for. So just to be very frank, i am never going to apologize for going after companies and corporations that take advantage of the desperation of the american people. And as Attorney General i saw this happen. In the midst of an emergency, whether it be an extreme weather events or even the pandemic We Saw where those View Companies not the majority, not most, but those few companies that would take advantage of the desperation of people and jack up prices, yet we go after them. Yes im going to go after them, and that iS Part of a much more comprehensive plan on what we can do to bring down the cost of living, including housing, including the everyday needs of the american people. I want to just ask you about a little job and a big job. The first one just a fact check. There is no such thing as a little job. Fair, because your opponents almost every day seems to be talking about this so i just want to ask you yes or no. At any point in your life have you served two all beef patties, special sauce, lettuce, cheese, pickles, onions on a sesame seed bun, working at a mcdonalds . Yes or no, thats it. I have. Now the other job it was not a small job. Fries, you know. Let me ask about a big job. To your point if you dont mind, before we get to the big job, part of the reason i talk about having worked at mcdonalds is because there are people who work at mcdonalds in our country who are trying to raise a family. I work there as a student. I was a kid who worked there, trying to raise families and pay rent and i think part of the difference between me and my opponent includes our perspective on the needs of the american people, and what our responsibility is to meet those needs. And to the big job. You have laid out policy in great detail. But the economy is an unpredictable beast and you are running for a job that takes extraordinary instinct and guts. Whats the last time you had to make a Gut Decision . This here is very prescribed, its very controlled. Probably the biggest Gut Decision ive made most recently is to choose my running mate. Yeah. There were lots of good, incredible candidates and ultimately that came down to that decision. I know im out of time but i just want to ask you a question from my got. Because today were talking about reproductive we were talking about the economy but people dont think often about reproductive rights being an economic issue. But it is. A Womans Ability to plan her future, her education, her life , today and in the last few days Donald Trump keeps talking about it, and how in overturning Roe V wade he helped women. He protected women. He says they are miserable today. They are poorer today. They are more vulnerable today. He said he will be the protector of women if elected. Can you respond to that . So Donald Trump is also the person who said women should be punished for exercising a decision that they rightly should be able to make about their own body and their future. So i think we would all agree that as a result of that perspective that he has about women, he also then chose three numbers of the United States Supreme Court who did as he intended, undid the protections of Roe V wade, and now in state after state you see laws being passed that to punish women, laws that i mean most recently, a heartbreaking story resulted in a young woman dying, a mother of a 6year old. Heartwrenching stories, and thats for the listener, much less their family. So look, i think the thing about Donald Trump is that, you know, i dont think the women of america need him to say hes going to protect them. The women of america need him to trust them. Can we trust you . Yes. Yes. Im not perfect but i will tell you im always going to put the needs of the people first. Madam Vice President , thank you for your time today. Thank you. Thank you.
