Cheney also explained why former president trumps actions on January 6th disqualified him from being president again and she talked about the responsibility that all americans have to uphold our nations democracy. I volunteered on my first president ial campaign. I already told you how old i am, so ill tell you. In 1976 when i was 10 years old and i was sealing envelopes for president fords reelection campaign, i cast my first vote ever in 1984 for ronald reagan. I served in the State Department in both bush administrations, and i served in the united States House of representatives for three terms including as a third highest ranking republican inhouse leadership. So, in other words, i was a republican even before Donald Trump started spray tanning. History teaches us again and again that democracies can fall. They fall to popialists. They fall to strong men, strong men who beguile their citizens with Conspiracy Theories and false emergencies. As my friend taught us, the lesson of our history is that the task of merely maintaining strong and sturdy, the structures of our constitutional order is unending. It is the continuing and ceaseless work of every generation. And that responsibility now falls on All Of Us in this election. We have a shared commitment a shared commitment as americans to ensuring that future generations live in a nation where power is transferred peacefully, where our leaders are men and women of good faith, and where our public servants set aside partisan battles to do whats right for this country. And as you have heard and know, he refused to accept the will of the people and the results of an election that was free and fair. As you have heard, he sent an armed mob to the united states capitol, where they assaulted Law Enforcement Officers. He threatened the life of his own Vice President and refused to engage in the peaceful transfer of power. And let us be clear about how he intends to use power if elected again. He has called for jailing journalists, political opponents, anything he sees and deems as being an enemy. He has pledged to destroy the independence of the department of justice. And he called for deploying our active Duty Military against our own citizens. I know the vast majority of us regardless of your political party agree we must hold sacred americas fundamental principles from the Rule Of Law to free and fair elections. And if you share if you share that view, no matter your political party, there is a place for you with us and in this campaign because those principles i know unite us across party lines. We hear the talk about preserving democracy and protecting the constitution repeatedly from Liz Cheney and Vice President harris on stage yesterday, and it comes down to the reality that independents, republicans, and democrats understand that alignment in this moment is critical to the survival of the basic institutions in which allow for debate on policy ideas. Because what theyre saying in this moment is not that we agree on everything, but they agree that Donald Trump is the threat, and thats the reason we come together for the Sake And Survival for our democracy and constitution. And i think the impact is going to be broad, because keep in mind democrats have run on protecting democracy in 2020, 2023. Right, this has shown across partisan lines and age, race, and demographics, its a message that does appeal far and wide. So what Vice President harris is looking to do in this campaign, which is operating within the margin of error in polls across Swing States is welcome every president who wants to come on in into her campaign. The other thing we heard from Vice President harris on that stage is her long history of public service. And swhee talked about being the top Law Enforcement official that has right. When she talked being a senator and serving in multiple capacities up and down the government, i expect her to continue to shine through and expect her to continue to deploy surrogates from Law Enforcement, surrogates who are veterans, men who are out front supporting her candidacy because they believe shes the best person to lead this nation in the future.
