By VIRGIL LOPEZ, GMA News Published May 13, 2021 5:28pm Ruben Ecleo, Jr., the former lawmaker who was found guilty of murdering his wife, died on Thursday, the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) said. BuCor spokesperson Gabriel Chaclag said Ecleo, who was detained at the New Bilibid Prison, passed away due to cardiopulmonary arrest at 12:20 p.m. Thursday. Ecleo recovered from COVID-19 over a week ago, he said. “[His] other medical conditions include obstructive jaundice, chronic kidney disease secondary to obstructive uropathy,” Chaclag added. Ecleo was arrested in Pampanga in July 2020, eight years after he was sentenced to prison for murdering his wife, who was found decomposing in a ravine in January 2002.
