Just as the Squamish Valley Music Festival was kicking off Aug. 7, up the highway in Pemberton a group of about 20 business owners gathered to debrief about the impact July’s Pemberton Music Festival has had on their community. The consensus at the Pemberton and District Chamber of Commerce meeting, which was held at the Pemberton Community Centre, was that the festival offered plenty of opportunities that weren’t fully realized. Sharon Stevens, owner of Birken Lakeside Resort, Grille and General Store spoke about business at her resort and on the festival site, where she operated a food booth. At her resort she said her regular visitors stayed, but no festivalgoers showed up. She said there should have been more promotion of what was available in Pemberton and better access into town.
