Muskegon County man charged with controlled substance possession in Benzie County Compiled by Colin Merry, cmerry@pioneergroup.com Jan. 25, 2021 FacebookTwitterEmail BENZIE COUNTY — A Muskegon County man was arrested in Benzie County for possession of a controlled substance. Steven David Gionet, 23, of Fruitport, was stopped for a vehicle equipment violation on U.S. 31 near Demerly Road, in Joyfield Township, by a Michigan State Police trooper from the Cadillac post on Jan. 22. According to a news release issued on Jan. 25, the trooper found a small plastic bag containing two pills in Gionet's front pocket. The pills were identified as acetaminophen and the opioid pain reliever hydrocodone bitartrate. Gionet was placed under arrest and lodged at the Benzie County Jail.
