NCDOT: Traffic Shift Set for Tuesday at Carrboro Roundabout The North Carolina Department of Transportation is alerting motorists to a change in traffic patterns coming at a popular Carrboro intersection. The state department shared a release Friday saying a new traffic pattern will be installed at the North Greensboro Street and Estes Drive intersection, where a roundabout is being constructed. The change is slated to be completed by state contractors between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. on Tuesday and represents the shift to Phase 3 of construction. The $3.4 million project, which aims to create a better traffic flow for the busy intersection, is funded by the North Carolina Department of Transportation through the State Transportation Improvement Plan. Contractors broke ground in summer 2019 and the Town of Carrboro reports construction is about 75 percent complete. The town government said this new traffic shift will allow crews to construct the center island of the roundabout while resurfacing asphalt and painting new striping, which are some of the final steps of the project.
