Faith Phillips will fill the vacant position of Cumberland County library director beginning May 10. Phillips, 33, is currently the manager of the Durham County Main Library. Over the past eight years, she has worked for the library systems in both Wake and Durham counties in various positions including youth services humanities coordinator, library assistant and team librarian. Within those positions. Phillips said, she created multiple programs and projects including after-school programs, storytime programs for kids, STEM (science, technology, engineering, arts and math) activities and a round table talk, which gave youth an opportunity to talk openly about uncomfortable topics. "I feel like there are so many pieces that have prepared me for this job," she said. . "It's just learning how to work with a team and growing confidence as a leader and learning strategies and tools that I can take into my job, as the director, to see how to move the libraries forward and to expand upon the talents and the resources that we already have in Cumberland and just to make it that much more."
