New Flyover Ramp Changes Traffic Flow For I-85 Interchange In Cabarrus County January 13, 2021 KANNAPOLIS, N.C. — Transit officials say starting Friday, January 15th drivers taking Dale Earnhardt Boulevard to Interstate 85 South will be able to take a new flyover ramp as part of the I-85 widening project in Cabarrus County. Officials say the current southbound loop at Dale Earnhardt Boulevard/Roxie Street will permanently close at 9 p.m. on Thursday, January 14th to allow for the new ramp to open safely by 1 a.m. on Friday. During the time the current ramp is closed and the new flyover ramp opens, drivers can get on I-85 South using a temporary detour along Dale Earnhardt Boulevard and U.S. 29, according to a news release.
