New Mahindra Thar has amassed over 50,000 bookings in India The second generation Mahindra Thar was launched in October last year and was off to a good start, racking up substantial order in just a few weeks. The Indian SUV maker has now revealed that it has received over 50,000 orders for the hardcore offroader in the last six months. This is even though Mahindra is facing serious production issues and the waiting period for the new Thar is as high as up to 10 months in some cities. The reason for this high waiting time is the overwhelming demand for the SUV. To make things a little manageable, Mahindra has not been accepting orders for the entry-level Standard and AX variants. But the production troubles have gotten worse for the brand because of the global semiconductor shortage which has affected most of the carmakers in India and other countries. To address this issue, Mahindra is trying to ramp up production at both the plants in Nasik to speed up Mahindra Thar's deliveries in the country.
