New spent nuclear storage facility opened at site of Chernobyl NPP
KYIV. April 26 (Interfax) - Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has attended a ceremony granting a license to operate an interim spent nuclear fuel storage facility (ISF-2) at the site of the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant, the Ukrainian presidential press service said.
"Today, a new storage facility for spent nuclear fuel has been put into operation [...] This is a significant step for security in the [Chernobyl] zone, security in Ukraine, security in Europe, and around the world. The step we are taking today with boundless gratitude and respect to all liquidators [disaster cleanup workers] of the Chornobyl accident, as well as with boundless faith and readiness to work for the safe, ecological future of our children, our next generations," Zelensky said at the ceremony.
