NYUP SYR Facebook Share Thanks to snow and cold weather, this weekend should be a good time for winter recreational activities such as hiking, snowshoeing and cross country skiing in the Adirondacks and Catskills and other backcountry areas – provided one has the right clothing and equipment and takes the proper precautions. According to the state Department of Environmental Conservation, snow depths currently range greatly in the central and northeastern Adirondacks, with the deepest snows in the higher elevations like the High Peaks region and other mountains over 3,000 feet.
