Chris Daniel's new documentary is a testament to the power and importance of putting in the work. Daniel, based in Tinton Falls, began work on a documentary charting the early years of landmark Newark-based jazz station WBGO-FM in September 2018, finishing the film in the fall of 2020. Starting with its founding in 1979, WBGO has been the collective work of countless folks who worked relentlessly to bring the sound of jazz to the people of Newark and beyond. "It wasn't a 9 to 5, at all," Daniel said in a recent online discussion of the film also featuring Asbury Park Press reporter Alex Biese. "It was a long, long, drawn-out labor of love, and they just stuck together."
